About the Job
Function: This position independently manages the planning, supervision, reporting, execution, analysis, and evaluation of complex projects in finance operations, strategic planning, information technology, and related areas within the Division of Surgery.
Scope: This role significantly impacts operational procedures and practices within the Division and its Departments. The position requires expertise in financial management and regulations, along with advanced proficiency in multiple institutional systems. The Sr. Financial Analyst will exercise independent judgment with minimal supervision, effectively utilizing divisional and institutional relationships and tools to achieve objectives.
KEY FUNCTIONS
· Financial and Statistical Reporting: Produce and distribute daily, weekly, monthly, and quarterly reports for departments and division management. Reports cover patient activity, financial performance, provider productivity, FTEs, clinical operations, research funding, free balance, and projections. Identify and implement improvements to meet various reporting needs, including operational, regulatory, management, and strategic requirements.
· Advanced Financial and Operational Analysis: Conduct complex analysis of research, clinical, operational, and financial data to support division management in financial operations and strategic decision-making.
· Revenue and Charge Capture Compliance: Support charge capture and compliance efforts to optimize revenue. Monitor billing and charge capture processes to ensure accuracy.
· Research Awards and Clinical Trials Database: Develop and manage a database for research awards and clinical trials. Create grant and research funding reports, and monitor departmental deficits.
· Expense Management: Perform monthly reviews of personnel and non-personnel expenses (fund groups 10, 30, 40, and 80) per institutional guidelines. Develop and maintain a system for accurate, up-to-date accounting of division office funds.
· Budgeting and Forecasting Support: Organize information for the budgeting process and assist with divisional budget preparation. Provide timely budget reports, coordinate the capital equipment process, assist departments with monthly rolling forecasts, and prepare monthly budget variance analysis with recommended corrective actions.
· Internal Controls and Compliance: Assist in designing, executing, and monitoring internal controls and procedures for the Division to ensure compliance with institutional policy and federal regulations. Identify, implement, and track corrective actions as necessary, working with division and departmental management.
· Policy Development and Financial Guidance: Develop and implement divisional finance policies. Maintain knowledge of federal, state, and institutional financial regulations and advise faculty and staff on required practices. Act as a resource on financial issues and mentor junior financial staff.
· Special Projects and Other Duties: Undertake various projects and additional responsibilities as assigned.
Required Education:
Bachelor's degree in Business Administration or related business speciality.
Required Experience:
Five years experience in data analysis, accounting or financial project management.
Preferred Experience/Skills:
Experience in health systems and academic medicine. Proven ability in project management, financial forecasting, policy review and development, business systems analysis, business plan writing, and enhancing organizational effectiveness. Proficiency in business intelligence (BI) tools such as Power BI and Oracle Hyperion (including reporting, planning, Excel add-ins, and Smart View).
