About our opportunity:
The City of Asheville is seeking qualified applicants for the position of Senior Events Manager in the Community and Regional Entertainment Facilities department. This department is responsible for managing events and activities at various entertainment venues, ensuring they run smoothly and effectively.
What you’ll be doing:
- Manage all logistics for events at Harrah’s Cherokee Center Asheville, including the Arena, Auditorium, Exhibit Hall, and Banquet Hall.
- Respond to client requests and provide detailed information and support for event execution.
- Create event-related documents such as diagrams, cost estimates, timing sheets, stage plots, and internal memos.
- Coordinate with contractors, staff, and outside agencies for event-specific needs.
- Act as manager on duty during events to ensure safety protocols are followed, client needs are met, and customer service issues are resolved.
- Communicate with supervisors, subordinates, City employees, event promoters, and the public to coordinate activities and resolve issues.
- Supervise and evaluate assigned staff, plan and review work, address employee concerns, recommend disciplinary actions, and conduct performance appraisals.
- Organize and prioritize work activities, develop employee schedules, and ensure adequate coverage and resources.
- Submit event related documents to departments pertaining to event settlement.
- Salary: $55,493.68 annually

We know your time is valuable. Applicants who meet the following minimum requirements or have comparable experience and/or education will be considered:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Business, Event Management, Hospitality, Public Administration, or a related field.
- Five years of experience in event management, hospitality, or a related field.
- Valid state driver’s license.
Other things to know:
- Work Schedule: Typical schedule is 9am to 5pm, but may vary based on events. Nights, weekends, and holidays may be required depending on event scheduling. This position is mainly in-person, with office hours on non-event days, except for approved work-from-home days.
