Senior Estimator/Cost Engineer - Decatur, IL
Capex Project Estimator – Global. Based in Decatur, IL, this is a full-time exempt position.
_Position Summary:_
The Senior Estimator is responsible for supporting the Project Controls group aligning on standard industry standard project cost estimation through ADM global capital project management process (“FEL” – Front End Loading).
This individual works with global capital project teams to prepare and validate necessary cost estimates for projects in each phase of our stage gate process and evaluate project actuals against plan after projects are executed and closed.
The Estimator will also be the main SME (Subject Matter Expert) for capex cost estimating process, and be able to educate and coach other capital project stakeholders around estimating best practices, cost KPIs, and other pertinent information to focus on continuous improvement for the project controls organization.
_Essential Job Functions:_
+ Validate FEL project cost estimates greater than $5million from all regions
+ Validate ADM estimating requirements for each FEL gate are met
+ Validate appropriate change risk allowances, risk reserves, and owner’s contingency values
+ Validate project estimate and project scope/schedule are in alignment to avoid incomplete estimates
+ Assist project managers and other colleagues with preparing proper cost estimates and basis of estimate documents
+ Initiate Project Control Request for approval
+ Prepares estimates for proposed change orders and updates project plans and estimates with latest information on change order approval
+ With Business Analysts and Project Managers, works to accurately forecast costs of proposed projects
+ Builds educational vehicles and systems to enhance organizational estimating capability, accuracy, and consistency
+ Maintains estimating databases and integrates these databases with the enterprise project controls tools
Working Conditions:
+ The scope of this position will encompass predominantly office work in an office environment
_Required Qualifications:_
+ Significant experience with cost estimating in a related environment
+ Experience using verbal and written communications skills effectively, including the ability to interact effectively with customers and vendors
+ Previous experience demonstrated project cost and resource estimating
+ High-level familiarity with accounting and finance processes
+ Ability to meet deadlines and work under stress
+ Exposure and general understanding of risk management tools and techniques
+ Familiarity with enterprise project controls tools
+ Proficiency with relevant computer applications
+ Experience working in cross-functional teams
Preferred Qualifications:
+ Bachelor of Science degree (or higher) in Construction Management, Engineering, or a similar technical discipline, OR equivalent professional experience
+ Project management courses and certifications
+ Member AACE, ASPE, or PMI
