About the Job
Our client is a dynamic and rapidly growing organization specializing in the construction site development aspect of Residential, Commercial, and Industrial projects. They are looking to add a Senior Estimator to their team.
Salary/Hourly Rate:
$100k – $150k
Position Overview:
The Senior Estimator will be responsible for preparing comprehensive, accurate, and timely estimates for all contract types, including lump sum, time and material, and others. This role requires a deep understanding of construction cost estimation processes, excellent communication skills, and the ability to develop strong relationships with subcontractors, suppliers, and project stakeholders. The Senior Estimator will contribute to ensuring that each project is bid competitively and accurately, aligning with the company’s goals and customer expectations.
Responsibilities of the Senior Estimator:
- Prepare Detailed Estimates:
- Develop comprehensive, accurate material, labor, equipment, subcontractor, and construction facility estimates for all projects, ensuring that all aspects are considered.
- Subcontractor and Supplier Relations:
- Foster and maintain strong relationships with subcontractors and suppliers to ensure competitive pricing, high-quality work, and reliable performance on projects.
- Pre-Bid and Proposal Conferences:
- Attend on-site pre-bid/proposal meetings and site visits to assess project requirements, scope, and challenges.
- Subcontractor Scopes of Work:
- Develop and review subcontractor scopes of work, analyze and evaluate subcontractor quotes for best value, ensuring compliance with project specifications.
- Bid Status Reports:
- Prepare and present project bid status reports, ensuring compliance with all specifications, Statements of Work, and Bid Invitations.
- Cost Estimate Presentations:
- Present cost estimates to meet customer proposals, incorporating considerations for general and special conditions that may affect pricing and project execution.
- Project Schedules and Specifications:
- Prepare detailed scope specifications, requirements, and input project schedules.
- Perform quantity takeoffs, prepare cost summary sheets, and input quantities into estimating software.
- Maintain Cost Database:
- Maintain an accurate, current database of cost codes and historical data to ensure accurate pricing and benchmarking of future estimates.
- Job Comparison and Accuracy:
- Review company jobs post-award and compare actual performance to as-sold estimates to confirm the accuracy of the original estimates and identify areas for improvement.
- Utilize Historical Data:
- Use the appropriate company and industry historical data for pricing estimates to ensure that bids are competitive, accurate, and aligned with current market conditions.
Qualifications for the Senior Estimator:
- Experience: 7 – 10 years of relevant estimating experience in the site development/utility construction industry, with a proven track record in preparing accurate estimates across various contract types.
- Technical Skills: Advanced project estimation skills, understand engineering nomenclature, and communicate effectively with Application Engineers, Product Managers, Project Managers, Engineering teams, and vendors.
- Analytical Skills: Strong analytical skills, with the ability to review complex data and apply critical thinking to ensure accuracy in estimates.
- Communication: Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to present estimates and reports clearly and professionally.
- Attention to Detail: Strong attention to detail, ensuring that all aspects of the estimate are thoroughly considered and documented.
- Organizational Skills: Strong organizational and problem-solving skills, with the ability to prioritize tasks and manage multiple projects concurrently.
- Independence: Ability to work independently and exercise sound judgment, managing projects and deadlines with minimal supervision.
- Multitasking: Ability to multitask, prioritize, and work effectively under pressure to meet established deadlines.
- Software Proficiency: Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office (Excel, Project, PowerPoint, Word, Outlook) and estimating software, knowledge of Pro Estimate a plus. AGTECK software experience is required.
Education Requirements:
- A 4-year degree in Building Construction, Construction Management, Civil Engineering, or a related field is required.
