ABOUT THE POSITION

Senior Environmental Scientist – Site Investigation & Remediation | Wethersfield, CT

VHB's Wethersfield, CT office has a need for an experienced Senior Environmental Scientist to join our growing Site Investigation & Remediation practice!

Responsibilities

• Manages, plans, develops, organizes, and implements environmental investigation and remediation projects
• Explores subject area, defines scope, selects areas for investigation, and develops novel concepts
• Determines client requirements and develops plans, specifications, drawings, instructions, cost estimates, reports, final bid packages, and related documents
• Leads research teams to solve complex problems
• Investigates any quality problems that lead to project changes and modifies project plans as needed
• Ensures each project complies with federal, state, and local environmental regulations
• Establishes and monitors budgets to assess profitability
• Represents VHB at meetings with clients, regulatory agencies, and stakeholders
• Responsible for client relationships, visibility, and business development
• Provides direction and guidance to technical team members and reviews their work for technical accuracy
• Mentors and may supervise junior team members

Skills and Attributes

• Strong understanding of State regulatory requirements, including CTDEEP Remediation Standard Regulations
• Ability to make quick decisions regarding regulatory applicability and respond to clients in an efficient manner
• Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills
• Willingness to mentor junior staff and work in a team-based atmosphere
• Motivated and able to problem-solve
• Strong knowledge of site assessment/characterization, data analysis, and remediation techniques
• Experience working on contaminated sites throughout Connecticut including interaction with local, State, and Federal regulators (CTDEEP, CTDPH, and EPA)
• Familiarity working in urban environments, managing soil and groundwater on construction sites, and performing ASTM Phase I and II Environmental Site Assessments
• Familiarity with state regulatory programs (Property Transfer, Voluntary Remediation, and Brownfields).
• Experience developing and implementing Remedial Action Plans, EPA Quality Assurance Project Plans, and PCB Cleanup Plans
• RCRA, TSCA, PCB, and Brownfield experience a plus

Qualifications

• B.S. in Environmental Science, Natural Resources, or related field
• 5-8 years of environmental consulting experience (remediation focus) required
• Master’s Degree preferred
• OSHA 40 hr. HAZWOPER certification and annual refresher certifications required
• Licensed Environmental Professional or on track to obtain preferred
