Job Title: Senior Environmental Health & Safety Associate
Job Location: Torrance, CA
Salary: $80,000-$90,000/yr
This role will support EH&S risk prevention, chemical compliance, and floor-level safety culture integration at the Torrance site
Responsibilities:- Manage hazardous waste (large quantity generator) shipment and maintain proper documentation in compliance of applicable hazardous waste regulations.
- Carry out assigned waste minimization and environmental sampling activities.
- Responsible for environmental reporting requirements for LA sanitation district, TIER-2 reporting, storm water sampling & reporting and other CUPA reports in a timely manner
- Prepare and submit reports per air quality permits issued by South Coast Air Quality Management District including, monthly VOC documentation, annual TRI reporting, and others.
- Assist in incident/injury investigations and root cause analysis. Follow-up with stakeholders as needed.
- Perform monthly health & safety inspections and address hazards & unsafe conditions/concerns in a timely manner
- Participate in emergency (spill, fire, earthquake etc.) response, reporting and follow-up.
- Perform the monthly fire extinguisher/emergency eye wash-shower/first aid/AED inspections for the facility and follow up as needed.
- Coordinate and schedule vendors/consultants for recurring EH&S tasks per site’s requirement.
- Assist the EH&S Manager with Cal-OSHA training requirement for site personnel and maintain all training documentation
- Maintain regulatory calendar in VelocityEHS, perform all assigned tasks in a timely manner and maintain proper documentation
- Assist with regulatory inspection from government agencies and follow up as needed.
- Lead assigned EH&S projects and represent EH&S on various projects involving cross functional teams
- Manage the invoicing process to ensure timely payment for site.
- Assist in ordering EH&S supplies, chemicals and maintain EH&S inventory.
- Must have a bachelor’s degree in occupational health and safety, engineering or science with 2 years minimum EH&S work experience.
- Must have a sound knowledge of applicable local, state and federal regulations for hazardous waste, air quality, wastewater, storm water among others.
- Must have intermediate level of expertise with Microsoft Office.
- Must be able to safely carry or lift up to 50 pounds with or without material handling equipment
- Must be able to perform extensive walking, bend, stoop or climb ladders
- Ability to learn & operate mobile equipment such as forklifts and electric pallet jacks.
- Ability to effectively interface with cross functional teams (e.g. engineering, production, facilities etc.)
- Ability to pass respiratory fit test and obtain HAZWOPER 40 hours certification
Certifications/Perferred:
- HAZWOPER 40 hrs. certification
- First Aid, CPR certification
- Hands-on experience of hazardous waste management that includes experience with handling, processing, packaging, and tracking hazardous waste for shipment, treatment, and disposal.
- Hands-on experience in VOC reporting and other SCAQMD rules and reporting requirement
