About the Job
Nevada Gold Mines is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior Environmental Professional to join our Environmental team at Carlin. The successful candidate will be crucial in ensuring compliance with all legal and regulatory obligations related to air quality permits and programs through technical and administrative work.
Key Responsibilities
Air Quality Compliance
- Ensure adherence to all legal and compliance/permitting obligations associated with the Title V Air Permit, Mercury Operating Permit, Federal MACT, and GHG reporting regulations.
- Oversee the maintenance of existing air compliance systems and the development of new systems as needed.
- Communicate effectively with regulatory agency personnel, site managers, corporate resources, legal counsel, and other stakeholders.
- Conduct inspections of mine operations to ensure permit compliance and accompany regulatory inspectors during periodic site inspections.
Team Management and Development
- Lead, manage, and develop Environmental Engineers, Coordinators, and Technicians, as assigned.
- Oversee the maintenance, evaluation, and reporting of collected data to governmental agencies and Corporate Sustainability.
Permitting and Reporting
- Manage business partners to complete permit applications and work with agency personnel to obtain approval for permit modifications.
- Manage the stack testing program, including schedule coordination with the testing company, review, and submittal of reports to appropriate regulatory agencies.
- Prepare semi-annual and annual compliance reports as assigned.
Operational Support
- Act as a customer service liaison to ensure Operations personnel understand air permit obligations and guide them in air permitting decisions to assist in achieving their objectives.
- Assist with training NGM employees, contractors, and others on relevant environmental topics.
Additional Responsibilities
- Respond to environmental incidents during periodic, after-hours on-call duties as needed.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Ability to regularly walk over uneven, sloped, rocky, wet, or icy ground and lift 40 or more pounds consistently and safely.
Education and Experience
- Bachelor's degree in Environmental Engineering, Mining Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Environmental Science, or a related field is required.
- Five (5) to ten (10) years of direct experience in environmental compliance, including regulatory agency interactions, is required.
- Three (3) or more years of experience in a mining environment is preferred.
- Previous supervisory experience is required.
Technical Knowledge and Skills
- Comprehensive knowledge of Title V air permitting regulations is required.
- Experience with NESHAPs for Gold Mine Ore Processing and Production Area Source Category (7E) and the Nevada Mercury Control Program is preferred.
- Proven ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously is required.
- In-depth experience with Excel is required, and experience with database programs is preferred.
- Excellent verbal, written, presentation and interpersonal skills are required.
- Demonstrated ability to perform the essential responsibilities of the position is required.
- Experience in other environmental media (water, waste management, lands, etc.) is preferred.
- Demonstrated knowledge of permitting processes relative to NDEP is preferred.
- Familiarity with ISO 14001:2015 is preferred.
