Senior Engineer – High Voltage Cable Design
Location: Huntersville, NC (Onsite)
Compensation: $125,000 to $155,000 annually
Relocation Assistance: Partial
Travel: Up to 60%
Our client is seeking a Senior Engineer in High Voltage Cable Design to lead the development and implementation of underground HV/EHV transmission cable systems. This role combines technical expertise in electrical engineering with strong leadership and communication skills to ensure project success and customer satisfaction.
Role Overview
This position involves designing comprehensive cable system solutions, preparing detailed engineering documentation, and collaborating with internal teams and clients. The role also includes mentoring junior engineers, supporting manufacturing processes, and representing the organization as a subject matter expert in high-voltage transmission systems.
Key Responsibilities
- Cable System Design:
- Develop end-to-end cable system solutions, including accessories, grounding details, and bonding schemes for voltages ranging from 69kV to 500kV.
- Use advanced software and analytical techniques to meet project and bid requirements.
- Customer Interaction:
- Act as a technical expert, presenting solutions and conducting training seminars for clients.
- Resolve complex technical issues and provide actionable recommendations.
- Project Management:
- Prepare specifications, proposals, and safety documentation, collaborating with Sales, Marketing, and Project Management teams.
- Lead research and development projects, managing timelines, budgets, and logistics.
- Manufacturing Support:
- Develop testing plans, oversee design handovers, and address challenges on the production floor.
- Facilitate smooth transitions between production, installation, and client delivery.
- Leadership and Training:
- Train and mentor junior engineers, fostering skill development and knowledge sharing.
- Industry Representation:
- Represent the engineering team at industry conferences and forums.
Qualifications
- Education and Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field with at least 10 years of relevant experience.
- Demonstrated expertise in high-voltage underground power transmission systems.
- Technical Proficiency:
- Deep knowledge of industry standards (ICEA, AEIC, IEC, IEEE) and thermal, mechanical, and electrical calculations.
- Skilled in engineering software such as Cymcap, Comsol Multiphysics, SolidWorks, AutoCAD, Matlab, and Pull Planner.
- Experience with cable materials, testing processes, and programming in Visual Basic or similar languages.
- Skills:
- Strong communication and technical writing abilities.
- Ability to analyze engineering drawings and interface with clients and leadership.
- Exceptional organizational and problem-solving skills.
- Traits:
- Customer-focused, action-oriented, collaborative, and adept at balancing stakeholder priorities.
Additional Requirements
- U.S. Citizenship or Green Card holders only (Visa sponsorship is not available).
- Must be comfortable with up to 60% travel.
