About the Job
The Senior Packaging Engineer is responsible for managing and executing current and new product packaging onboarding programs. This includes establishing and processing of product packaging requirements, test plans, import documentation, test completion documentation, pre-shipment inspection and other program tasks. This role will work with 3rd party service providers, product engineers and internal key stakeholders to ensure all onboarding steps are completed and compliant with applicable federal and state and local laws and regulatory requirements in conjunction with WESCO policy and procedures. This position will have no direct reports but will direct 3rd party work.
+ Collaborate with Service Providers (SP) to develop, harmonize and approve packaging test protocols based on International Safe Transit Association (ISTA) standards across all impacted products.
+ Provide technical services for continuous improvement efforts involving packaging materials.
+ Gather relevant marketing and supply chain information to develop packaging requirements.
+ Assist in the development, validation, and implementation of packaging-based cost reductions projects.
+ Collaborate with functional leaders to ensure business requirements related to packaging are fully coordinated.
+ Review and approve all packaging change request from manufacturers.
+ Will ensure that all onboarding procedures of new products and packaging are well defined and being followed for all external agencies.
+ Support non-compliance event and investigations and support all identified Corrective/Preventive Actions (CAPAs) resulting from Non-Conformance and/or Complaint investigations.
+ Act as POC responsible for contacting the appropriate stakeholders to obtain information needed to aid in the investigation.
Experience
+ 5-7 Years of relevant Packaging Engineer experience.
+ 3-5 years experience running multiple projects.
+ Experience in Right-Sizing Packaging.
Education
+ Bachelors Degree in Engineering is required, a Masters degree is preferred.
+ PMP certification is preferred.
Skills
+ Knowledge of industry best practices and support concepts (ITIL, BICSI, LEAN, and others).
+ Familiarity of Sustainable Packaging Strategies.
+ Knowledge of Toxics in Packaging Clearing House.
+ Familiarity with International Safe Transit Association (ISTA) Test Series.
+ Knowledge of Fair Packaging Labeling Act and Uniform Packaging and Labeling Regulation.
+ Familiarity with Packaging Industry Standards such as ASTM F1140 Burst Strength Test.
+ Ability to effectively communicate, verbally and in writing.
+ Data analysis and reporting.
+ Ability to multitask and prioritize workload.
+ Basic understanding of supplier corrective action Plans (CAPA).
+ Ability to work in cross-functional team environment.
+ Business acumen and understanding of Merchandising.
+ Proficient with Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint.
