Job Description: Our client, a large defense contractor, has an immediate opening for a Sr Advanced Electrical Engineer to work from their Manassas, VA facility. We are seeking a Senior Electrical Engineer with 8+ years of technical experience to become an integral member of the engineering team dedicated to the development of military-grade electronics the Common Weapon Launcher (CWL) system.
Qualifications: Requires a Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, or a related Science, Engineering or Mathematics field. Also requires 8+ years of job-related experience, or a Master's degree plus 6 years of job-related experience.
CLEARANCE REQUIREMENTS: Department of Defense Secret security clearance is obtainable with in a reasonable time from hire. Applicants selected will be subject to a U.S. Government security investigation and must meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information. Due to the nature of work performed within our facilities, U.S. citizenship is required.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Analyze and design AC-DC and DC-DC power systems and power control
- Integrate, test, troubleshoot, and verify electrical hardware
- Develop test criteria and assist in the design of test systems
- Perform component and architecture trade studies to determine optimal system solutions to design hardware and electronics based on commercial and industry components and technologies
- Design cable assemblies
- Develop new electronics in the form of PCB designs and corresponding tests
- Develop technical presentations, recommendations, and written communications to explain technical issues to program management and the Navy customer
- Generate design and interface documentation
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Experience with the engineering development life cycle, including concept, requirements, design, implementation, and test phases
- Experience with MIL-STD-1399 and MIL-STD-461 design and qualification
- Experience with design and debug of switch mode DC-DC converters including knowledge of control loop stability analysis
- Experience with design and debug of 3-phase AC-DC conversion including transformer design
- Working knowledge of common communication interfaces such as RS-422, RS-485, and LVDS
- Experience in analog and digital circuit design
- Experience with lab equipment including signal generators, high speed oscilloscopes, power analyzers
- Proficiency in all phases of PCB design, including: creation of high-level functional diagrams, SPICE analysis, power analysis, component selection, schematic entry, and working with the PCB layout team to optimize placement, signal integrity, fitment, etc.
- Strong documentation and communication skills
- OrCAD Capture experience a plus
- Experience with firmware or microcontrollers a plus
- Experience with VHDL/Verilog a plus
