Senior Electrical Engineer - Kleinfelder Inc

Kleinfelder is looking for a dynamic Electrical Engineer to join our team. Under supervision and with latitude for independent action and decision, our engineers perform responsible engineering work on a professional level in design or analysis of engineering projects. The Electrical Engineer may be required to perform activities such as performing asset investigation, electrical design, cost estimating, field measurements, preparation and correction of field drawings, preparing operating and maintenance instructions, data analysis, compilation and reporting of technical data and performance of other related duties for overhead and underground electric power transmission and distribution projects. This role has a hybrid remote/office schedule based in a California office and may require travel for work assignments. A fully remote position might be considered for the right candidate.

Responsibilities:

• Review designs and documentation to ensure compliance with codes, standards and design criteria
• Prepare designs, calculations, schematics, layouts, and studies from field inspections, preliminary sketches, specifications, and instructions requiring knowledge of engineering practices and shop and field procedures
• Develop asset data integrity strategy, including processes for data capture and validation
• Perform asset investigation. Create electric components list and capture required asset information
• Acquire and analyze data using appropriate standard quantitative methods
• Construction specification and bid package preparation
• Provide technical guidance to team members on Electrical Engineering test methods
• Develop status reports with task completion, progress, challenges and solutions
• Oversee all civil, mechanical, and electrical conceptual designs, including technology selection, preliminary layouts and production of detailed plan sets for solar projects.
• Coordinate with internal teams on design and value engineering input, in preparation for permitting and interconnection.
• Leverage cost and performance knowledge to inform early-stage design decisions and equipment selection.
• Develop and lead cost estimating tools across both construction and procurement; expand cost estimating data source and accuracy.
• Perform detailed engineering designs and technical reviews of low voltage distribution, high voltage transmission, and PV solar design packages

Skills & Experience:

• 6-10 years of relevant experience
• Familiarity with instrumentation and controls design for remote control, feedback and automation (Preferred)
• Utility Business Understanding (Preferred)
• Working knowledge of CAD and GIS software (Desired)
• Familiarity with the National Electric Code (NED), electrical power transmission and distribution systems (Desired)
• Technical Communication
• Proficient use of MS Outlook, Word, Excel, Project, and PowerPoint

Education: Bachelor of Science Degree in Electrical Engineering

Experience: 10+ years of related design/engineering experience. Experience in utility projects is a plus

Certification/Registration: Professional Engineer license required (or ability to obtain within 6 months)
