SMI in Charlotte, NC is seeking a Senior Electrical Engineer to join our team!
This position is primarily responsible for (1) electrical design as it relates to comprehensive product development, as well as (2) design and support of product compliance testing and validation equipment for multiple production lines. The position additionally supports occasional electrical needs for the Operations group.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Core duties and responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
- Proficient in PLC programming and design, schematic design (in 2D/3D CAD, VIZIO), PCB (printed circuit board) design, digital and analog circuits, robotics, hands on repair / trouble shooting expertise, DC electric motors, electronic solenoids/actuators, and lighting (LED technology and flashtube). Strong electro-mechanical product aptitude.
- Proficient in the design, updating and troubleshooting of electro-mechanical equipment used to validate and document product performance/ compliance. Includes data captures, manufacturing interfaces, and report generation for review at regular intervals.
- Proficient in use of electrical validation equipment, test methods and standards. Ability to perform field diagnostics and work with external suppliers and customers to diagnose product related issues.
- Experience in design analysis, root cause analysis, product testing and validation, project management. Familiar with DVP, DFMEA, DFS and DFM strategies.
- Generates, modifies, and reviews detailed CAD models and drawings. Including electrical/ mechanical layouts, assembly drawings, and drawings of intermediate and final assemblies for use in production, or to vendors. Designs and documents will adhere to established company and industry specifications. (Autodesk Inventor experience a plus).
- Creates and manages BOMs in conjunction with Engineering Change Release Management.
- Compiles and writes training material and conducts training sessions on equipment or quality control activities.
- Maintains a working knowledge of the latest codes and new developments in testing and examination methods of processes, materials, and products.
- Relies on instructions and pre-established guidelines to perform the function of the job.
EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:
- Minimum Educational: Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering, Electro-Mechanical Engineering or equivalent degree
- 3 + years of experience in an Electrical Engineering related position.
