Position Summary:
The incumbent generates and administers radiation therapy treatment plans and dose calculations necessary for patient treatment and in consultation with radiation oncologists and/or medical physicists. Accurately documents use of radioactive materials. Assists in teaching and training students, residents, physicians, etc. in radiation therapy administration and protocols.
Essential Job Functions:

- Responsible for billing of dosimetry procedures and daily review of dosimetry procedure billing to ensure accuracy of charges. Prepares materials and forms as required regarding dosimetry on patients participating in clinical research trials. 5%
- Effectively operates radiation therapy treatment planning systems/software. Performs radiation therapy planning functions such as IMRT, 3D conformal, VMAT, SRS, SBRT, HDR Brachytherapy, multmodality image fusion, etc. Assist in the localization of radioactive sources for the purpose of dosimetry. Collaborates with radiation therapists as necessary to ensure accuracy of patient setup. 40%
- Effectively operates radiation therapy treatment planning systems/software. - Collaborates effectively with all members of the health care team. Participate in the clinical education of medical residents and other allied health students. Assists in the quality assurance program in radiation oncology. Assists and teaching of dosimetry and radiation physics. 10%
- Collaborates effectively with all members of the health care team. Participate in the clinical education of medical and physics residents and allied health students, and provides teaching/traning of a Medical Dosimetrist Student enrolled in the UC Irvine Medical Dosimetry Program. Assists in the quality assurance program in radiation oncology. Assists and teaching of dosimetry and radiation physics. 10%
- Assists in obtaining treatment planning CT & MRI scans, or other scans where special positioning or dosimetric considerations are necessary and checks treatment planning scan parameters as necessary ensuring adequate imaging for treatment planning. Accurately enters treatment plan parameters into current record and verify system. Assists therapists on initiation of treatment to ensure the implementation of approved treatment plan. Performs CT scans to initiate the treatment planning process when necessary. 10%
- Assists in acquisition of treatment planning CT & MRI scans (including multimodality image registration/fusion), or other scans where special positioning or dosimetric considerations are necessary and checks treatment planning scan parameters as necessary ensuringoptimal imaging for treatment planning. Accurately enters treatment plan parameters into current record and verify system. Assists therapists on initiation of treatment to ensure the implementation of approved treatment plan. Performs CT scans to initiate the treatment planning process when necessary. 10%
- Accurately interprets data regarding patient status in consideration of patient age, calculates prescribed dosages in consultation with radiation oncologist and medical physicist, to both tumor and dose limiting structures and organs, documents all calculations and procedures. Performs and participates in in-vivo and phantom dose measurements. 35%

Required Qualifications:
Must possess valid ARRT and CRT for radiation therapy technology or BS in Physics
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships across the Health System
Ability to maintain a work pace appropriate to the workload
Must demonstrate customer service skills appropriate to the job
Understanding of medical terminology
Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English
Ability to work variable shifts including weekends and holidays
Ability to competently operate modern radiation therapy treatment planning systems/software & multimodality image manipulation software
Working knowledge of relevant billing codes as they apply to procedures and activities performed in an academic hospital
Advanced knowledge of record-and-verify system(s) (e.g. ARIA) and experience using a record-and-verify system in an electronic treatment chart environment
Minimum 3 years’ experience working as a Dosimetrist
Medical dosimetry certification by MDCB
Must possess the skill, knowledge and ability essential to the successful performance of assigned duties
Current BLS certification
Preferred Qualifications:
Graduation from an accredited School of Radiologic Technology
Proficient with VARIAN ECLIPSE treatment planning software and ARIA
Bilingual skills in English and Spanish and/or Vietnamese
Knowledge of University and medical center organizations, policies, procedures and forms
