This multidisciplinary position requires that you demonstrate your deep legal and business acumen with an understanding of the life sciences industry to partner with Lilly’s Corporate Procurement function. This position’s primary area of focus will be as follows:

Legal Support, Risk Mitigation and Strategic Counseling:

Provide legal support and substantive expertise to corporate procurement with a focus on value creation and risk mitigation and implementation of process and technology infrastructure to drive efficiency. Acting as transactional partner and strategic advisor to Lilly’s Procurement function.

Initiatives include transactional support of Lilly Procurement’s external contracting function, and implementation of contract lifecycle management (CLM) contracting infrastructure to improve efficiency and streamline processes to the enterprise.

Global Services and LRL Support:

Lilly continues to be a leader in the global pharmaceutical space. The development of new and exciting medicines at Lilly has created a more complex, dynamic and diversified global footprint and supporting services infrastructure. The number and variety of external products and services suppliers and clinical trial partners requires that Lilly closely cultivate and manage these key relationships, both internally and externally, to ensure that lifesaving medicines are produced in a reliable, efficient and sustainable way. This position will be an integral part of the TCoE, supporting Lilly’s Procurement teams that collectively lead, grow and sustain Lilly’s global Procurement network and its supporting supplier base.

This position will be responsible for:

• Identifying and resolving, highly complex legal issues in the corporate procurement and related products and professional services space;
• Drafting and negotiating a wide range of agreements (including transactional, governance related and services focused agreements), building internal consensus and driving successful business outcomes in situations of ambiguity;
• Providing clear advice to internal clients and legal leadership and ensuring that advice enhances the performance of Lilly’s procurement function and supporting infrastructure;
• Effectively communicating, translating complex technical, performance and regulatory issues into understandable terms and recommending strategic and sometimes novel solutions; and
• Serving as the recognized source for a detailed and strategic understanding of Lilly’s relationships in the procurement and professional services spaces.

Additionally, this Counsel will:

• Take ownership of matters and projects.
• Identify legal issues for assigned matters.
• Identify and implement functional solutions to improve operational excellence.
• Assist other attorneys and collaborators in resolving legal issues on cross-functional projects.
• Develop knowledge of business and client concerns.
• Keep abreast of changes in the law.
• Represent Lilly externally to customers and suppliers.
• Resolve legal issues using negotiation skills and legal expertise.
• Help direct work of outside counsel.

Basic Requirements:

• J.D. from an ABA-accredited law school.
• Candidate must be admitted to the bar in at least one of the fifty states.
• Minimum of 5 years of legal/attorney experience related to the drafting, review and negotiation of sophisticated transactions (preferably in the pharmaceutical space) either practicing as a member of a law firm in a relevant area of law or practicing at an in-house law department, or a combination of the two.

• Ability to effectively and responsively collaborate with team members, other lawyers and members of management across all levels of the organization.
• Ability to quickly understand and integrate with Lilly Legal and pharmaceutical industry, and ability to absorb complex technical and scientific information on a project-by-project basis.

Additional Information:

Indianapolis, IN is preferred location for this role, however, remote will be considered.
