At Maximus, we are leading the way in digital transformation for our government customers. The Senior Director of User Experience (UX) will play a critical role in this fast-paced and innovative team. They will serve in a dual role, both coaching staff across a broad range of UX disciplines and serving as a creative director deployed in a customer-facing project capacity. Here, they will be responsible for planning, coordinating, and leading the work of a matrixed creative team that includes both UX and content specialists, in alignment with stakeholder expectations, contractual commitments, and technical deliverables. The Senior Director of UX will also be expected to contribute to the evolution of design standards, deliverables, and methodologies within the organization. The Senior Director of UX will have a background portfolio of successes delivering high-end experience for private-sector clients, with a desire to take these skills and fundamentally change the experiences that are found in the public sector today.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
• Lead and mentor within project work: guide staff in creating high-quality deliverables, facilitate client discussions and workshops, lead critiques, and coach fellow designers.
• Facilitate the client's product vision by researching, conceiving, sketching, prototyping, and user-testing experiences for digital products.
• Lead the creation of deliverables including information architectures, sitemaps, wireframes, prototypes, personas, user journeys, service blueprints, and process flows.
• Collaborate with product managers and other designers to define, prioritize, and solve problems.
• Make strategic design and user-experience decisions related to core, and new, functions, and features.
• Manage relationships with external partners, freelancers, and vendors as needed.
• Support business development through estimation, solutioning, and high-level staffing plans.
• Direct planning, staffing, budgeting, schedules, delivery, and quality to meet business requirements.
• Develop and recommend innovative methods, techniques, and criteria for project execution.
• Coach project teams, manage assignments/schedules, and ensure successful completion of tasks.
• Review project deliverables to ensure compliance with acceptance criteria and contract requirements.
• Provide accurate and timely communication of risks, issues, and mitigation plans.
• Build relationships and grow trust with clients, stakeholders, other departments, and digital team.
• Collaborate as member of senior leadership team to enhance value and drive innovation. Report to a Vice President.
Minimum Requirements:
• Bachelor's Degree in Design, Computer Science, Anthropology, Human-Computer Interaction, or informatics required.
• 12-15 years of related professional experience required.
• 10 years of client-facing experience in agency or consultancy required.
• The Senior Director of User Experience will be able to work hybrid out of the office location at least three (3) days per week
Additional Qualifications:
• A portfolio that reflects design experience and leadership.
• Proven track record of design thought leadership and collaboration with cross-functional teams to drive experience direction.
• Demonstrated success leading projects through full development cycles in discovery, concepting, prototyping, testing, and delivery and engaging cross-functional partners in the research and design process.
• Advanced skills in interaction design, visual design, information architecture, user research, and service design.
• Strong facilitation skills and experience utilizing a variety of methods and techniques to run complex human-centered design workshops.

- Collaborate as member of senior leadership team to enhance value and drive innovation.
- Develop and implement new processes and standards impacting achievement of functional results.
Minimum Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree in related field required.
- 12-15 years of related professional experience required.
- Minimum 5 years experience managing a department of professional level employees.
- Proficient in Microsoft Project.
- Project Management Professional (PMP) certification preferred.

Pay Transparency
Maximus compensation is based on various factors including but not limited to job location, a candidate's education, training, experience, expected quality and quantity of work, required travel (if any), external market and internal value analysis including seniority and merit systems, as well as internal pay alignment. Annual salary is just one component of Maximus's total compensation package. Other rewards may include short- and long-term incentives as well as program-specific awards. Additionally, Maximus provides a variety of benefits to employees, including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, a retirement savings plan, paid holidays and paid time off. Compensation ranges may differ based on contract value but will be commensurate with job duties and relevant work experience. An applicant's salary history will not be used in determining compensation. Maximus will comply with regulatory minimum wage rates and exempt salary thresholds in all instances.
