Job Title: Senior Director, Research & Early Development (R&ED) Environment, Health, Safety & Sustainability (EHSS)

Position Summary:
The Senior Director, Research & Early Development (R&ED) Environment, Health, Safety & Sustainability (EHSS) is responsible for overseeing all aspects of EHSS for the R&ED network. This position will provide strategic direction, ensure compliance with regulations, promote employee safety, and drive continuous improvement initiatives. The role reports to the VP of EHSS and is part of the company EHSS Leadership Team.
Key Responsibilities:
+ Strategic Leadership: Develop and set EHSS strategy for the R&ED organization, ensuring alignment with BMS's overall EHSS objectives. Oversee a network of R&D facilities to ensure risks are identified and appropriately managed.
+ Risk Management: Ensure risks are identified and appropriately communicated and managed through implementation of effective risk management principles across all levels of the organization, maintaining healthy vulnerability.
+ Cultural Leadership: Lead across matrix to create a culture centered around environmental and safety best practices while fostering accountability across all levels of the organization.
+ Investigations: Lead investigations covering sensitive, ambiguous, and compliance-related issues, ensuring appropriate escalation and independence.
+ Future Trends: Anticipate future trends and provide leadership and support to all aspects of R&ED operations.
+ Talent Development: Provide talent development leadership for the EHSS teams, in partnership with the Operating Units and the wider BMS enterprise.
+ Metrics and Reporting: Set and support delivery of R&ED environmental and safety metrics that enables continuous performance improvement.
+ External Relationships: Build and maintain relationships with external peers and organizations to enable a contemporary R&ED EHSS program.
+ Regulatory Interactions: Partner with various stakeholders in negotiations and interactions with regulatory agencies.
Experience & Qualifications:
+ Bachelor's degree in Environmental Science, Occupational Health, Safety, Engineering, Sustainability or a related field; advanced degree preferred.
+ Significant experience in EHSS leadership roles within a multinational organization, preferably in the pharmaceutical or biopharmaceutical industry.
+ Experience and proven track record in Research and Development environment.
+ Proven track record of developing and implementing global EHSS strategies.
+ Strong knowledge of EHSS regulations and best practices.
+ Experience in risk management and the ability to implement effective risk management principles.
+ Excellent leadership and team management skills, with the ability to foster a culture of safety and accountability across a matrix organization.
+ Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage and influence stakeholders at all levels.
+ Experience in change management and talent development.
+ Ability to build and maintain relationships with external agencies and organizations.
+ Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
The starting compensation for this job based in the California area is a range from $231,000 - $289,000, plus incentive cash and stock opportunities (based on eligibility).
The starting pay rate takes into account characteristics of the job, such as required skills and where the job is performed.
Final, individual compensation will be decided based on demonstrated experience.
