Senior Director, Design - Human Resources and Finance

Within our HR design team, our goal is to design best-in-class products and services that support our talent management, performance management, and hiring processes. Within our Finance design team, our goal is focused on creating products that enable our associates to perform better financial analysis, reporting, and forecasting. Throughout all of our work, we aim to instill loyalty and trust in all of our digital products through our high standards of craft, quality, and security.
TEAM DESCRIPTION
Our HR and Finance Design team’s understanding of our associates is crucial to our success in building a portfolio of next-generation HR and Finance products. Our team partners closely with our product managers, software engineers, and data scientists to ensure great end-to-end experiences for our associates. As Sr. Director, you will help shape and deliver on a bold vision of how our HR and Finance products are created, managed, and used within Capital One.
WHAT YOU WILL DO
Shape Strategy & Planning
- Collaborating with product, technology, operations, and analyst teams to uncover customer and business needs, translating them into transformative, intuitive, user-friendly, and on-brand UX and UI.
- Engaging in portfolio prioritization to help set the strategy for the cross-functional team, understanding the business objectives and key results you are targeting.
- Shaping and evolving operating models including program planning, resourcing, and effective collaboration across product, design, analysis, and technology teams.
- Charting experience roadmaps that span near, medium, and long-term horizons.
- Managing through shifting priorities and fostering consistent alignment with senior partners.
- Advocating for the customer through human-centered design methodologies.
Lead & Develop Teams
- Building and leading successful teams by mentoring and coaching junior team members.
- Guiding team members by driving craft excellence in strategy, research, design frameworks, UX or UI, presentation, and communication.
- Leading your team through career development plans to encourage talent growth.
- Participate in hiring by leveraging your professional network.
Drive Design Execution from Discovery through Delivery
- Supporting early product definition by facilitating discovery sessions that uncover customer pain points.
- Demonstrating familiarity with design methods and tools to oversee design of concepts and prototypes.
- Enabling scale through the creation of reusable design assets, processes, learnings, and templates.
- Drive end-to-end strategic product and service design.
THE PERSON
The successful candidate will have a proven track record of developing a vision, driving the action plan, and leading a design team in collaboration with cross-functional partners to deliver business results. Strong business judgment, communications, and analytical skills are essential. They will be a team player with the ability to work independently in a fast-moving environment.
Basic Qualifications
- At least 6 years of experience in leading a design team.
- At least 12 years of experience in design, delivering products to market.
Preferred Qualifications
- Master’s degree in Design or Human-Computer Interaction.
- 8+ years of experience working with enterprise products or platforms.
- Experience in designing enterprise platforms.
- Experience working in a large financial institution or technology company.
- Exceptional written and verbal communication skills.
