Reporting To:
The Senior Die Design Engineer will report directly to the Design Engineering Manager, collaborating closely to drive efficiency and excellence in tooling design and production.
Responsibilities:
- Design and develop stamping tooling, including strip layouts, simulations, die construction, and press specifications, ensuring adherence to project timelines and quality standards.
- Manage the end-to-end process of tooling programs, from sourcing to production readiness, while tracking and reporting progress to stakeholders.
- Assist in the development and updating of Die and Gage standards manuals, contributing to the enhancement of best practices and quality standards.
- Coordinate communication between tooling suppliers and internal business groups, facilitating seamless collaboration and project execution.
- Troubleshoot dies and identify opportunities for improvement, implementing corrective actions to optimize performance and minimize downtime.
- Oversee tooling maintenance scheduling and tracking systems, utilizing data-driven approaches to predictively schedule necessary actions and minimize costs.
- Provide floor support on production dies and tooling, offering advanced troubleshooting to minimize downtime and enhance productivity.
- Evaluate product designs for manufacturability, recommending cost-effective solutions and process design changes.
- Design high-precision progressive stamping dies for high-volume production, ensuring compliance with engineering standards and specifications.
- Mentor and train departmental personnel to enhance skills and foster a culture of continuous improvement.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in a technical field, preferably Mechanical Engineering, coupled with 5-10 years of experience in Tool and Die Engineering.
- Proficiency in Computer-Aided Design (CAD), with experience in 2-D and 3-D design packages such as Solidworks, AutoCAD, or similar software.
- Strong understanding of ANSI/ISO drawing standards, GD&T dimensioning, and tool steels applications.
- Knowledge of Wire EDM, CNC machining technologies, and insert molding processes.
- Ability to read and interpret GD&T, engineering specifications, and estimating stamping die cost and timing.
- Exceptional analytical and computational skills, with the ability to multitask and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
- Effective communication skills, both verbal and written, coupled with the ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team setting.
