Location: Waterloo, IA (100% onsite required unless candidate has significant heavy haul or trailer design experience, in which case fully remote work is possible)
Compensation: $75,000 - $100,000 + Bonus

Job Overview:
The Senior Design Engineer will play a key role on the Engineering team, taking responsibility for end-to-end mechanical design and product development in response to specific customer requirements. This position is ideal for a committed, detail-oriented individual with advanced expertise in mechanical design, particularly in heavy equipment, trailers, or agricultural machinery.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead and complete engineering projects, with focus on designing and conducting research to evaluate mechanical systems, products, and structural durability.
- Execute design feasibility and rigorous testing to confirm system and product capabilities.
- Develop cost-effective manufacturing processes by designing and adjusting equipment for fabricating, assembling, and installing components.
- Conduct Finite Element Analysis (FEA), specifically for welding steel structures and hydraulic systems.
- Maintain a product database, develop testing methods, and ensure compliance with regulations.
- Provide accurate product reports by analyzing and summarizing information and trends.
Qualifications:
- Education: Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering (required).
- Experience: Minimum 6 years in design engineering, ideally focused on heavy haul, trailer, tractor, or agricultural machinery design.
- Technical Skills:
- Finite Element Analysis (FEA) and solid understanding of structural mechanics.
- Expertise in design for welding steel structures, hydraulic systems, and steel product design.
- Advanced proficiency in Excel and design software.
- Ability to lead significant design projects autonomously and work collaboratively within a team.
- Additional Skills:
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
- Ability to prioritize and manage multiple complex projects effectively.
- Experience with cost accounting and lean manufacturing principles.
- Innovative approach to continuous improvement and process optimization.
Compensation & Benefits:
- Salary range: $75,000 - $100,000, plus performance-based bonus.
