SCOPE OF THE ROLE
The Senior Design Engineer is responsible for the development and optimization of IDEX fluidics product solutions in the Biotech and In Vitro Diagnostics for OEM instrumentation needs. This role works to understand customer application challenges, extract and define product requirements, create specifications and develop concepts to meet customer needs.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & REQUIRED ABILITIES
+ Ability to take concepts from ideas to functional prototypes for verification testing while documenting research and testing for development of intellectual property. + Works with product managers, sales, and customers to define new product requirements. + Demonstrated experience of interfacing with external customers and outside suppliers/vendors (at least three years’ experience) + Proven ability to design precision mechanical components and assemblies (highly proficient in GD&T). + Analyzes designs for precision performance with appropriate tolerances and design for manufacture. + Ensures release to manufacturing documentation is reviewed, accurate, complete, and contains clear and comprehensive assembly and test instructions. + Comfortable leading and managing new product development projects using established procedures and project management tools as well as taking the role of Technical Lead for key customer projects. + Supports investigation, analysis and problem solving of quality items. + Develops expertise on relevant IDEX Health and Science technologies and products. + Investigates and remains current on new technology to generate new product ideas. + Capable of succinct communication of technical information with diverse teams – orally, in written form, and via presentations. + Attends relevant trade shows and assists in the preparation of product demonstrations and substantiation of marketing claims. + Remains flexible to support other functions as needed.
QUALIFICATIONS:
+ BS degree in Mechanical Engineering or similar degree. + Proven ability to design precision mechanical components and assemblies + Adept at using CAD software (SolidWorks) to create detailed models and drawings. + Experience applying mathematical and computational analysis to solve engineering problems, including use of modeling tools such as FEA, CFD, etc. + Demonstrated ability to complete tasks and effectively manage time to meet deadlines. + Proficiency in the use of business software tools (MS Word, MS Excel, MS PowerPoint) and a proven ability to quickly learn and use new software tools. + An established self-starter with the ability to work independently while supporting a culture of accountability, team orientation and a focus on successful outcomes. + Demonstrated written and oral communication skills. + Knowledge of various manufacturing processes including precision machining, injection molding, or extrusion. + Knowledge of engineering plastics and their applications. + Experience in the application of FEA and CFD to engineering problems as well as Design and Process FMEA + Experience with Design of Experiments (DOE) techniques preferred + Experience with fluid control and electro-mechanical devices (solenoid/rotary valves, pumps, sensors, test equipment).
