Duties: | The Database Administrator's role is to design, install, monitor, maintain, and performance tune production databases while ensuring high levels of data availability. This individual is also responsible for developing, implementing, and overseeing database policies and procedures to ensure the integrity and availability of databases and their accompanying software. |
A. Responsibilities:
- Perform duties of a Senior Database Administrator of Microsoft SQL Server in a production environment
- Provide installation, maintenance, monitoring and support for Microsoft SQL Server 2000, 2005 and 2008 databases
- Implementation and support of application requested database development changes in the Microsoft SQL Server and Windows environments
- Support of production systems for database problem resolution and recovery, as well as assistance with production applications including Emergency off-hour support
- Specification and development of systems for capturing and tracking database performance metrics, database and application performance monitoring, evaluation and recommendations
- Technical support of in house and 3rd party developed SQL Server applications, including software installation, upgrades, problem diagnosis, performance monitoring, evaluation and tuning recommendations
- Evaluation and recommendation of data base-related software products within technical architecture framework
- Development and implementation of backup/restore, disaster recovery and data replication procedures
B. Qualifications:
- BS/BA or higher degree from an accredited college/university
- A minimum of five years experience as a production support MS SQL Server database administrator
- Senior technical skills in MS SQL Server 2000, 2005 and 2008, including system installation and upgrade, backup and recovery, data server migration, database maintenance and support, release management, troubleshooting, performance tuning, developer and third party product support, configuration and support of DTS and SSIS jobs, SQL Server Agent jobs and maintenance plans
- Experience with the SQL Server Log Shipping, clustering, replication and database mirroring features
- Experience with installing and supporting SQL Server 2000, 2005 and 2008, particularly with features such as Integration Services, Reporting Services and Analysis Services
- Familiarity with SQL, Transact-SQL and troubleshooting queries and stored procedures
- Experience creating documentation of installation procedures, monitoring procedures, security policies, configuration changes, migration procedures, and best practices for development teams
- Experience with installing and managing 3rd party vendor applications and dependent components, including packages that utilize IIS, Microsoft Reporting Services, etc.
- Experience with automating database tasks: installations, refreshing databases from backup
- Experience with scripting tools such as VBScript will be a plus
- Experience with SQL Server Enterprise Manager, SQL Profiler, Query Analyzer, Access, Excel, Windows, Outlook, Explorer, and Windows scripting
- Experience using 3rd party monitoring tools for infrastructure support (e.g., BMC Patrol, MOM, Tivoli, Quest) and/or in-house developed tools for reporting of faults and performance issues
- Experience using 3rd party maintenance tools designed for SQL Server such as Idera's SQL Safe
- Development support experience including database object creation and maintenance, performance analysis, troubleshooting
- Able to install and troubleshoot client connectivity software, such as ODBC
- Self-motivated; proactive; a team player; able to manage own projects efficiently for on-time delivery
- Ability to learn new software and technologies rapidly
- Experience providing on-call production DBA support including off hours and weekend support
- Ability to function efficiently and effectively in a fast-paced environment
- Ability to work an off-hour schedule which may include weekend support for production emergencies
