Job Description
Purpose: The selected candidate will join a team of data scientists and data engineers with a unique blend of scientific, technical, and machine-learning expertise who seek to:
Optimize the quality, efficiency, and depth of insight generation from clinical biomarker data to support faster data-driven decision-making and to empower Precision Medicine Scientists in the future strategic planning for our assets
Unleash the full potential of internal and external/real-world biomarker data sources by facilitating deep exploration and analysis of complex biomarker data via fit-for-purpose data analytics solutions
Implement innovative bioinformatic approaches and machine-learning techniques to advance our understanding of patient heterogeneity and disease pathogenesis
Responsibilities:
Connects with cross-functional teams to design products and as an analytics consultant. Anticipates and identifies issues that could affect timelines or quality and develops options and solutions
Leads and helps establish the design principles and standards to ensure analytical work product is consistent across projects where appropriate and that user experience is optimized
In addition to standard statistical methods, develops prototypes, test methods and algorithms. Leverages emerging statistical methodologies, ML and AI to drive innovative analytical solutions to create insights
Enables data-driven insights to support clinical development continuum, including precision medicine; Responsible for coaching and mentoring junior team members.
Ensures adherence to federal regulations and applicable local regulations, Good Clinical Practices (GCPs), ICH Guidelines, AbbVie Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), and to functional quality standards. Stays abreast of new and/or evolving local regulations, guidelines and policies related to clinical development
Work side by side with cross-functional teams as an analytics consultant to strategize on how analytics can help evaluate the progress of clinical trials, as well as facilitate discussions around emerging risks; Applies machine-learning techniques to validate assumptions and predict future behavior
Drive the definition, design, implementation and validation of cutting-edge algorithms to analyze disparate data sources to achieve targeted outcomes by leveraging machine-learning, and Artificial Intelligence approaches, predictive and statistical modeling concepts, clustering and classification techniques
Ensures consistent analytics support to the AbbVie Clinical Trial and Precision Medicine portfolio through effective resource management, prioritization, and timeline management
Reviews landscape for new technologies and methodologies that can support the utilization of clinical data, multi-omics data and real-world data. Identifies use cases that are appropriate for the application of artificial intelligence
Collaborates across R&D functional areas to link data and key learnings for broad impact on complex, cross-functional projects involving multiple scientific and/or clinical discipline and Advanced Analytics methodologies. Capable of translating complex data science findings to broad audiences
Qualifications
Masters degree in statistics, analytics, bioinformatics, data science or equivalent. Ph.D. degree preferred
Must have 3-5 years of analytics-related experience in clinical research, including demonstrated high-level analytics and leadership competencies.
Advanced career-level proficiency in R, Python or other statistical packages. Intermediate-level knowledge of statistical and data mining techniques
Proven expertise in machine-learning and other advanced analytics techniques
Demonstrated effective communication skills. Demonstrated ability to communicate analytical and technical concepts in laymans terms
Demonstrated problem-solving and analytical skills
Demonstrated history of successful execution in a fast-paced environment and in managing multiple priorities effectively
Experience working in Cloud Computing environments (e.g., AWS, Azure, etc) is preferred
Experience in hands-on analysis of OMICS data, optimally including genomics data analysis plus two other OMICS technologies, is preferred. Experience in basic Immunology research and/or drug discovery is a plus
