Vaco is hiring for a Senior Data & Medical Economics Analyst (SDMA).
Role Overview
The Sr. Data & Medical Economics Analyst (SDMA) will be positioned within the Development & Data Analytics department. This team is responsible for identifying, developing, analyzing, underwriting and structuring future client partnerships while monitoring the performance of current client relationships. The SDMA will construct detailed analyses, confront challenging and unfamiliar subjects and interface with stakeholders across all departments and lines of business. The SDMA’s insight, analytics and conclusions have the potential to improve and influence the organization and contracting. This role is an essential part of the organizations mission to provide our health plan partners and patients with the ability to deliver high quality services while reducing the overall cost of care. The SDMA will develop strategies, find solutions, and build innovative new approaches that support the organization’s goals and future success.
The role requires the ability to simplify complex scenarios into summary concepts and discussion points. The ability to explain and detail the analyses created with key stakeholders and MCOs. The role is expected to excel in making independent decisions and support those decisions to executive management. The ideal candidate will be highly analytical, eager to learn, excited to grow, ready for a challenge and able to thrive in a collaborative and collegial work environment while potentially working remotely.
Key Responsibilities
Analyzing and valuing medical costs and data while applying financial modeling expertise and using independent judgement to determine appropriate methods and approaches to calculate accurate estimates of costs and profitability.
Providing data driven analysis to internal departments which will enable critical decision making.
Thoroughly vetting and performing due diligence on potential value based arrangements to assess financial impact, ensure operational feasibility, and identify impact on existing programs.
Identifying favorable and unfavorable performance trends based on contractual performance and communicating said trends to executive leadership.
Producing reports which identify areas of high cost and frequency, potential variations from targets and recommending interventions when appropriate.
Understanding and augmenting data exchange requirements for quality, financial, patient experience, and contractual requirements.
Performing other tasks in support of specific internal/external analytical requests including: ad-hoc analyses, participating in project workgroups and supporting MCO relationships.
Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree, preferably with a quantitative major (e.g. Computer Science, Business Math, Economics)
5-7 years of professional experience with claims-based healthcare analytics in a payer, provider, vendor, or consulting setting
Expert proficiency with SQL and Microsoft Excel. Experience with SAS, Python and Power BI a plus
Ability to communicate clearly with diverse stakeholders and prioritizing projects
Working knowledge of Medicare claims, episodic and conditional groupers and identifiers, Medicare risk adjustment, patient diagnoses, network analysis and cost-model development
Exceptionally strong analytical abilities with a track record of identifying insights from quantitative and qualitative data
Independent thinker with a growth mindset and the desire to expand technical skills while understanding the broader business context, and contribute to business strategy
Ability to manage multiple priorities and changing requirements
Excellent verbal, written, and presentation skills including ability to listen and communicate with a wide variety of audiences
Self-motivated and self-directed

Determining compensation for this role (and others) at Vaco depends upon a wide array of factors including but not limited to:
- the individual’s skill sets, experience and training;
- licensure and certification requirements;
- office location and other geographic considerations;
- other business and organizational needs.
With that said, as required by local law, Vaco believes that the following salary range referenced above reasonably estimates the base compensation for an individual hired into this position in geographies that require salary range disclosure. The individual may also be eligible for discretionary bonuses.
