Software Guidance & Assistance, Inc., (SGA), is searching for a Senior Data Analyst for a contract assignment with one of our premier Pharmaceutical services clients in South San Francisco, CA.
The mission of the Data Intelligence team in the Early Clinical Development (ECD) department at the firm is to optimize the support of clinical systems to provide high-quality clinical trial data insights and to offer data science-related consultation to the study teams. We leverage cutting-edge data science and operation data management to facilitate the study start-up planning. We develop advanced analytical data visualization and conduct predictive analysis to increase the efficiency of clinical data review and clinical operations with the ultimate goal of driving data-driven decision-making throughout the study lifecycle.
The Senior Data Analyst sits in the Data Intelligence team and supports ECD Clinical Operations study teams and management by providing predictive analytics insights, business intelligence, and advanced operational analytics for effective data driven decision making. The Senior Data Analyst sits in the Data Intelligence team and supports ECD Clinical Operations study teams and management by providing predictive analytics insights, business intelligence, and advanced operational analytics for effective data driven decision making. The Senior Data Analyst is responsible for managing, analyzing and presenting data in innovative and consumable ways to support the business questions and needs, leveraging capabilities in the following areas of expertise:
- Forecasting: creating time-series and/or patient-based forecasts; conducting uncertainty analyses
- Data Analysis: identifying trends and patterns in the data; descriptive statistics; qualitative and quantitative insights generation
- Advanced Data Analytics: designing and delivering advanced quantitative data analyses leveraging large/complex datasets and innovative methodologies
- Product Management: end to end delivery of analytical solutions from ideation through implementation, providing strategic partnership to communities across ECD Clinical Operations .
- Develop and deliver business relevant, innovative reports/analyses for use at all levels of the ECD Clinical Operations department (e.g. leadership, project team, study team).
- Deliver integrated insights and analytics, trade-off analyses, and risk assessment to enable optimization of patient recruitment strategies, country footprint, and clinical site selection for ongoing and planned clinical trials.
- Partner with relevant stakeholders to assess the health of the portfolio of clinical trials and identify opportunities to accelerate the delivery of studies and product launches.
- Communicate the effects that trial design elements, country and site selection, competitor activities and new engagement tactics will have on clinical trial recruitment & retention forecasts.
- Consult with members of leadership and other stakeholders on the changing landscape of industry standards for clinical operations to support current and emerging portfolio needs (e.g., evolving Phase I model, regulatory timeline shifts, accurate short- and long-term forecasts).
- Drive requirements gathering for data visualizations and innovative analyses and ensure complete understanding of project objectives and action plans.
- Exercise independent judgment and discretion on analyses and analytics projects – driving to strategic solutions for leadership.
- Actively participate in cross-business unit and cross-functional global workstreams to align and implement global strategies and tools when appropriate.
- Manage communication with study teams and other stakeholders at all levels, both written and verbal. Prepare presentations and participate in internal and functional meetings to discuss analytical methods, results, and recommendations.
- Increase the sophistication and application of advanced analytics methods (including predictive modeling, machine learning, and scalable prototypes) to measure study performance and guide portfolio-level decisions efficiently and at the speed of business.
- Develop expertise in concepts, methods and supporting technology relevant to analytics. Stay current with and adopt emergent relevant methodologies, tools and applications to ensure fit-for-purpose and impactful approaches.
- Leverage off-the-shelf solutions to develop customized data visualizations.
- Lead and support business initiatives with analytics and data driven insights.
- Work with IT and data governance teams to clarify data needs. Collaborate with internal and external team members to acquire, aggregate and/or curate data and information.
- May provide oversight to junior team members conducting analysis.
- Bachelor's degree in Data Science, Statistics, Computer Science, Life Sciences, Public Health, or a related field.
- 3+ years experience in Biotech/Pharmaceutical industry.
- 5+ years experience (3-5 years of experience with a Masters degree) in the following areas: Patient Insights, Investigator Insights, Forecasting, Competitive Intelligence, Data Analytics, Statistics, Advanced Data Analytics, Resourcing, Information Visualization and/or Data Science.
- Strong proven experience engaging Clinical Operations stakeholders to understand and diagnose business problems, as well as using data driven methods to analyze and solve business situations.
- Demonstrated experience translating data into insights and creating compelling narratives.
- Understands the advantages and limits of different analytical approaches.
- Considerable experience applying exploratory & confirmatory data analysis techniques that inform business decisions.
- Track record of effectively working in a matrix environment with team members coming from scientific, business and operational backgrounds, using influence without authority.
- Experience with scripting, statistical & programming languages and analytical tools (e.g., Python, R, SQL, SAS).
- Ability to merge together data sets from disparate sources and report findings in a variety of formats and mediums.
- Advanced proficiency in MS Excel and MS PowerPoint
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Strong interpersonal skills and a consultative mindset, with the ability to develop strong partnerships, highly effective verbal & written communication skills.
- Good problem-solving ability, process minded, breaking down complex problems into distinct parts, able to generate refined output from general concept, managing uncertainty, understanding, anticipating interdependencies.
- Able to proactively "connect the dots” by asking thought-provoking questions.
- Objective when presenting insights and guiding decision-making; demonstrate good presentation skills by pairing sound analytics with storytelling.

- Graduate-level degree preferred.
- Portfolio management experience is highly desirable
- Experience with various forecasting methods and techniques strongly preferred.
- Experience with data visualization tools (e.g., Tableau, Spotfire) is preferred.
- Experience with real-world data sources and electronic health records (EHR) systems is a plus.
