The responsibilities of this position are to advise and represent Johnson & Johnson in complex commercial disputes globally in all sectors, with an emphasis on US litigation and international arbitration.
As Senior Counsel, you will report into the Vice President, Complex Commercial Litigation, and:
• Advise and shape strategy across a broad range of civil matters, including contract disputes; antitrust litigation; trade secrets issues; regulatory litigation; congressional inquiries; and administrative proceedings.
• Evaluate and advise on pre-litigation commercial disputes, including with respect to non-litigation outcomes.
• Serve as a trusted advisor to business and legal colleagues.
• Develop and implement affirmative litigation strategies.
• Select and supervise outside litigation counsel.
• Retain and manage experts to support and/or testify in litigation and arbitration.
• Negotiate and manage legal budgets.
• Advise the company on commercial issues that relate to existing or potential litigation or arbitration.• A minimum of a JD.
• 10-12 years as a practicing attorney.
• Extensive commercial litigation experience, including experience with large and complex contract disputes.
• Ability to "have an opinion" backed by insight and confidence to influence stakeholders in meetings and on a one-on-one basis.
• An ownership mentality, comfort exercising authority, and enthusiasm for tackling new challenges.
• Outstanding and clear communication skills; ability to think analytically to understand complex or ambiguous problems or issues and articulate solutions/conclusions clearly and concisely.
• Ability to work collaboratively, including on cross-functional teams, with colleagues across the Global Legal Organization and commercial, R&D, regulatory, medical affairs, finance, tax, and other Johnson & Johnson functions.
• Ability to master complex substantive legal frameworks.
• Business acumen with ability to appropriately use judgment and risk-taking.
• Prior experience in pharmaceutical and/or medical technology industries is a plus.
Ability to travel 10%, primarily domestically.
The anticipated base pay range for this position is $173,000 to $299,000.
The Company maintains highly competitive, performance-based compensation programs. Under current guidelines, this position is eligible for an annual performance bonus in accordance with the terms of the applicable plan. The annual performance bonus is a cash bonus intended to provide an incentive to achieve annual targeted results by rewarding for individual and the corporation's performance over a calendar/performance year. Bonuses are awarded at the Company's discretion on an individual basis.
