They have an opportunity for a talented, motivated, and enthusiastic Senior Cost Accountant to join our team in our PA facility. The Senior Cost Accountant is responsible for preparing financial records for the corporate Controller, such as cost analyses and monthly variance analysis reports.
The successful candidate will have excellent analytical skills necessary to organize, manage and interpret vast amounts of numerical data to calculate product costs and profit margins and recommend ways for the company to minimize our costs and continuously improve their margins and profitability. The Senior Cost Accountant will require a keen eye for details to update information regularly into our accounting system, spot inaccuracies, and identify positive and negative trends.
This individual will also have completed a Bachelor's Degree in accounting or finance and have several years of solid work history in cost accounting in a manufacturing environment with a track record of proven performance. Background and experience in the military will be considered with the hands-on experience with COST accounting playing an important part of this role. The successful candidate must be self-motivated, able to work with minimal supervision, and have a “take ownership” and "getting the job done" mindset.
The candidate should be proficient in computer skills using the Microsoft Office suite of products to create documents, spreadsheets, and databases, and be able to help an organization to establish a stable budget within their specifications.
Job Responsibilities:
- Establish and maintain product standard costs for manufactured and purchased products.
- Analyze and interpret manufacturing cost variances.
- Input into the annual budget process in the areas of manufacturing labor and overhead rates.
- Collect and organize cost information into a database of expenses.
- Construct systems to accumulate and monitor data.
- Determine and calculate formulas for fixed and variable costs, such as rent, insurance, and monthly purchases.
- Plan budgets and prepare reports for multiple departments within the company.
- Calculate standard accounting Key Performance Indicators (KPI) for a manufacturing company with multiple product lines.
- Review receipts and compare with actual charges to detect inaccuracies.
- Project profit margins for upcoming quarters and analyze trends of highs and lows.
- Prepare cost forecasts for monthly, quarterly, or annual operating schedules.
- Analyze month-end and year-end reports to identify and recommend cost-effective improvements.
Qualifications:
- Demonstrated understanding of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
- Knowledge of International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS).
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting, Finance or Business, or equivalent experience
- Work experience as a COST accountant, analyst, or other relevant role is necessary.
- In-depth knowledge of accounting principles and best practices.
- Familiarity with major accounting software programs used for manufacturing corporations.
- Computer literacy skills, especially with MS Excel and advanced data entry and computation.
- Analytical skills with a keen sense of organization and detail.
- Proven time management skills and ability to work under strict deadlines.
- Respect for confidentiality of information laws and local ethics.
- Expertise in activity-based costing for fixed and variable costs in relation to the overall direct cost of a line of products.
