In this role, you will play a key role in ensuring the accuracy and efficiency of our cost accounting practices. You will collaborate with various departments to develop best practices, conduct in-depth cost analysis, and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives.
Duties
- Analyze financial data and variances to identify trends and opportunities for cost reduction.
- Develop and maintain standard costing models for materials, labor, and overhead.
- Perform account reconciliations, variance analysis, and month-end/year-end close processes.
- Ensure adherence to Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and Sarbanes-Oxley (SOX) regulations.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to implement cost-saving initiatives.
- Oversee physical inventory counts, cycle counts, and lead the annual inventory process.
- Manage, analyze, and explain cost rates for standard and non-standard costing systems.
- Develop standard unit costs for manufactured goods, including direct materials, labor, and overhead.
- Perform in-depth analysis of product and project costs, including material variances and labor efficiencies.
- Track and monitor capital expenditure spending to justify new projects.
- Prepare detailed reports for leadership to drive cost-effective decision making.
- Develop and maintain a rigorous cycle count program to minimize full physical inventory requirements.
- Assist with month-end close activities and prepare journal entries.
- Identify process inefficiencies and develop solutions for improvement.
- Conduct comparable analysis and market research to support internal financial analysis.
- Support external audits conducted by independent auditors.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting or related field.
- CPA or actively pursuing licensure (preferred).
- Minimum 5+ years of experience in senior cost accounting role within a manufacturing environment (aerospace industry a plus).
- Strong understanding of cost accounting principles, standard costing methodologies, and variance analysis.
- Experience with ERP systems (Epicor experience required).
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively across departments.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).
