A life sciences company located North of Boston is active in their search for a Senior Cost Accountant. The Senior Cost Accountant will take charge of inventory management, standard costing, and cost of goods analysis. Reporting to the Cost Accounting Manager, the Senior Cost Accountant will work in a hybrid capacity, with potential onsite presence 2-3 days per week.

Responsibilities of the Senior Cost Accountant will include:
- Ensure accuracy of inventory valuation and standard cost updates within the standard cost system
- Lead month-end close journal entries for inventory and cost of goods sold, ensuring SOX compliance in reconciliations
- Monitor and analyze key variances such as PPV, Material, Labor, and OH, fostering relationships with supply chain, manufacturing, and distribution teams to address variance-related queries
- Support Bill of Materials (BOM) analysis and upkeep as necessary
- Collaborate with cross-functional departments to troubleshoot and resolve production, purchasing, accounts payable, receiving, and shipping issues
- Assist in understanding global inventory transactions and valuation, including managing exposure to excess and obsolete inventory
- Prepare monthly Inventory and COGS Reporting, conducting monthly and quarterly flux analysis
- Uphold GAAP compliance and implement controls for the cost accounting function
- Play a pivotal role in developing and maintaining SOX controls related to costing and inventory, including training teams across functions
- Spearhead the creation of monthly metrics to enhance operational and financial planning and analysis (FP&A) reviews of gross margins
- Act as a liaison with operations to implement an efficient cycle count program
- Support financial audit processes, including driving annual physical inventory procedures and providing necessary documentation
- Lead digital and automation transformation efforts in cost accounting and operations, leveraging prior experience in scaling cost accounting functions
- Continuously refine costing procedures and systems to align with evolving business needs
- Undertake ad hoc special projects as needed

- Public company experience is preferred
