Position Overview
The Senior Cost Accountant will be in charge of gathering and reconciling all inventory and job costs, as well as reporting to senior leadership on job cost success against budget. You will also serve as the primary point of contact with government contracting and auditing agencies.
Key Responsibilities
- Plan, research, and gather data to assess costs related to business operations, such as raw material purchases, inventory, and labor expenses.
- Examine how changes in product design, raw materials, manufacturing processes, or services impact costs and influence margins.
- Track and compare manufacturing costs across different periods (monthly, quarterly, annually) and provide detailed reports on product line performance.
- Review and analyze project budgets, cost estimates, and financial forecasts.
- Deliver management reports that focus on pricing strategies, profitability analysis, and key cost drivers.
- Participate in month-end financial closings and support the creation of financial statements.
- Assist with a variety of audit processes, including DCMA audits, customer proposal evaluations (pre- and post-award), and annual financial audits.
- Help prepare invoices for cost-based contracts.
- Update and manage schedules for fixed assets.
- Review daily transactions such as part maintenance, kitting, and production receipts.
- Calculate overhead (OH), general and administrative (G&A), and FCCM rates for accurate cost reporting.
- Prepare provisional billing rates
- Prepare and submit required Incurred Cost Proposals.
- Adjust labor rates for forward-pricing bid projections.
- Ensure consistency and accuracy in MRP data and costing methodologies within the ERP system.
- Other duties as needed
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
- 5+ Years of experience in cost accounting, preferably in the defense manufacturing industry.
- Strong understanding of GAAP and cost accounting standards (CAS).
- Experience with project accounting and cost estimation methodologies.
- FAR/DFAR knowledge, as it pertains to costing
- Proficient in Excel and accounting software (ERP/MRP systems).
- Strong analytical skills with experience in variance analysis and month-end close processes.
- Excellent communication skills and the ability to collaborate with cross-functional teams.
