Summary:
The BMS Innovation Law Team is seeking an intellectual property attorney to join BMS' cell therapy research and development center in Seattle, WA.
The Senior Corporate Counsel position will support clients across multiple functional areas to build and leverage BMS' intellectual property interests, with a focus on cell and gene therapy products and processes and biologic products for treatment of oncologic, hematologic and immunologic diseases.
Responsibilities include providing strategic counsel and leadership on all facets of intellectual property law, including procurement, enforcement, freedom to operate, and business development, as well as legal counsel to the Research & Early Development organization.
The attorney will work closely with clients in various functions in a dynamic, growth-oriented environment and will collaborate with other in-house and outside attorneys to accomplish BMS objectives. This position requires residence in/relocation to Washington State.
Qualifications:
+ J .D. degree or equivalent and admission to at least one State bar.
+ M inimum of 12 years of patent experience in the biopharmaceutical field, preferably including at least six years working in-house for an innovative biopharmaceutical company, in roles of increasing responsibility.
+ R egistered to practice before the USPTO and eligible to practice in Washington or obtain a limited license for in-house counsel.
+ B achelor's degree or equivalent in the biologic or related sciences. An advanced degree and/or scientific research experience preferred.
+ E xcellent analytical, written and verbal communication skills.
+ S ervice-oriented focus with ability to work as part of cross-functional teams and drive results.
+ Hi ghest integrity, excellent judgment and the ability to proactively recognize and effectively assess business risk and communicate legal issues to management across patent, legal and general business functions.
The starting compensation for this job in Washington (WA) is a range from $290,000 - $320,000, plus incentive cash and stock opportunities (based on eligibility). The starting pay rate takes into account characteristics of the job, such as required skills and where the job is performed. Final, individual compensation will be decided based on demonstrated experience.
