Senior Construction Superintendent (00386) - PMA Consultants
Houston, TX 77002
About the Job
Position Summary
PMA seeks a detail-focused Site Construction Superintendent to oversee on-site construction activities for a large-scale airline catering facility at George Bush Intercontinental Airport (IAH). This position serves as the owner's representative superintendent, embedded within the project management team to act as the client's eyes and ears on-site, ensuring that the General Contractor adheres to all project requirements. Reporting to the Project Manager involves verifying compliance with project specifications, contractual obligations, and scheduled timelines, with oversight across all construction trades and subcontractors. While this role will primarily include standard day shifts, some construction activities may occasionally require night or weekend work. These non-standard shifts will be shared with the other site superintendent and the Assistant Project Manager (APM) to balance responsibilities and meet project demands.
Responsibilities include:
- Oversee all construction trades and subcontractors on-site, verifying that their work aligns with project specifications, contractual obligations, and quality standards.
- Conduct site inspections to ensure compliance with safety and building regulations, documenting activities in daily reports, safety logs, and material tracking records.
- Serve as the client's representative on-site, closely monitoring the General Contractor's work and ensuring adherence to project specifications, quality standards, and schedules.
- Review ongoing work to confirm adherence to design, material, and quality specifications, promptly addressing any deviations.
- Coordinate with subcontractors and site personnel to maintain schedule alignment, reporting potential delays or issues to the Project Manager, as well as some budget analysis, including pay application and forecasting reviews.
- Adjust to varying project needs, including working flexible shifts and weekends, to support critical project timelines.
Position Qualifications
- 10-15 years of experience in construction oversight, especially within large-scale commercial or industrial projects, with a strong focus on managing trades and subcontractors.
- Bachelor's degree in engineering, construction management, or a related field is required.
- Knowledge or experience in project controls support, including scheduling, cost management, and resource allocation.
- Experience in an owner-representative or client-facing superintendent role is highly preferred.
- Demonstrated attention to detail and expertise in ensuring specification and schedule compliance across multiple trades.
- Effective communication skills for clear reporting and coordination with project management and site teams.
- Proficiency in construction management software, particularly Procore, is required. Familiarity with Primavera P6 for schedule, budget, and forecasting analysis, as well as Building Information Modeling (BIM), is highly advantageous.
- Flexibility to work varied shifts, including nights and weekends, as project needs require.
Additional Requirements
Physical: Standing or sitting for long periods; must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at times and spend extended hours in front of a computer screen.
Cognitive: Problem-solving, written, and verbal communication skills; computer and software skills; and ability to read and interpret text online or in printed form.
