Overview
JST is currently seeking a Senior Cloud Systems Architect to support our team within a government environment. The Senior Cloud Systems Architect has a pivotal role responsible for the design, implementation, and management of complex cloud infrastructures within the government environment. This senior position demands extensive experience with cloud platforms, a deep understanding of DoD (Department of Defense) security requirements, and the ability to lead and mentor technical teams. The ideal candidate will possess advanced technical skills, strategic vision, and the capability to drive cloud adoption and innovation across the organization.

Sr Cloud Systems Architect Responsibilities
- Analyzes customer requirements and provides highly innovative technical expertise on cloud cluster computing techniques, technologies, and related cloud architectures.
- Lead the design and development of robust, scalable, and secure cloud architectures tailored to government needs.
- Design, develop, test, operate, and sustain security computing architectures to include cloud and overall infrastructure optimization activities.
- Collect and document solution requirements, performance objectives, detailing metrics, and benchmarking measurements for independent evaluation.
- Develop and implement cloud strategies, ensuring alignment with organizational goals and DoD regulations.
- Oversee the deployment and integration of cloud solutions, ensuring seamless migration of applications and data to cloud platforms.
- Develop migration plans, including risk assessments and mitigation strategies.
- Ensure continuity and minimal disruption during cloud migrations and implementations.
- Synchronize the technical strategy for multiple agile development projects.
- Provides expert knowledge for data integration and migration efforts, including mapping schemas and defining domain specific ontologies.
- Ensure all cloud solutions comply with DoD security standards and policies.
- Design and implement security controls and best practices, including encryption, identity, and access management (IAM), and compliance monitoring.
- Conduct regular security audits and vulnerability assessments of cloud environments.
- Lead and mentor a team of cloud engineers and administrators, fostering a collaborative and innovative work environment.
- Provide technical guidance and support to team members and other stakeholders.
- Conduct training sessions and workshops to enhance the cloud competency of the technical team.
- Implement infrastructure as code (IaC) using tools such as Terraform, CloudFormation, or Ansible.
- Advocate for and implement DevOps practices to streamline development, deployment, and operational processes.
- Automate routine tasks and workflows to enhance efficiency and reduce human error.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including development, operations, and security, to support cloud initiatives.
- Communicate effectively with senior leadership, providing updates on project status, risks, and opportunities.
- Prepare detailed documentation of cloud architectures, processes, and procedures.
- Coordinate with vendors, contractors, and third-party service providers.
- Manage stakeholder expectations and ensure project alignment with organizational objectives.
- Champion a "Cloud first" methodology, such as Platform as a Service (PaaS), Infrastructure as a Service (IaaS), Software as a Service (SaaS).
- Integrate technology solutions across platforms and business segments.
- Ensure all IT activities comply with DoD regulations, standards, and security protocols.
- Assist in implementing security measures to protect sensitive information and systems.
- Report any security incidents or breaches to the appropriate authorities.
- Must be able to lift 50 lbs.
- Must be available to travel up to 4 times a year.
Sr Cloud Systems Architect Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree (or equivalent experience can be considered)
- 10+ years of related experience as a cloud engineer / architect.
- Relevant cloud certifications such as AWS Certified Solutions Architect - Professional, Azure Solutions Architect Expert, or Google Cloud Professional Cloud Architect.
- Security certifications like CompTIA Security+, CISSP, or equivalent.
- Extensive experience with major cloud platforms such as AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud.
- Deep understanding of cloud architecture design, deployment, and management.
- Expertise in cloud security practices, including IAM, encryption, and compliance.
- Proficiency in scripting languages such as Python, PowerShell, or Bash.
- Experience with Infrastructure as code (IaC) tools like Terraform, CloudFormation, or Ansible.
- Strong background in implementing DevOps practices and tools.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills to interact effectively with team members, stakeholders, and senior leadership.
- Proven leadership and mentoring capabilities to guide and develop technical teams.
- Understanding of cloud native capabilities and services
- Willingness to stay current with evolving cloud technologies and industry best practices.
- Ability to quickly learn new tools, technologies, and procedures.
- Ability to work effectively in a collaborative team environment.
- Strong customer service orientation and interpersonal skills.
Desired Qualifications
- Extensive experience working in a DoD or government IT environment.
- Preferred experience in Google Cloud Platform (GCP)
- Experience with containerization and orchestration tools such as Docker and Kubernetes.
- Familiarity with DevOps practices and tools.
- Familiarity with hybrid cloud environments and multi-cloud strategies.
- Smartsheet, Salesforce, Google Workspace experience
Required Clearances and Screenings
- MUST be able to pass a US Government Security Clearance
- MUST have an active secret clearance or be able to obtain one
