The Workers’ Compensation Reinsurance Association (WCRA), a nonprofit association providing workers’ compensation reinsurance protection to all Minnesota insurers and self-insurers, is seeking an individual for the position of Senior Claims Specialist.
Work location: St. Paul/Hybrid – Full-time position, minimum 2 days in-office required (Wednesday mandatory), candidate must be within driving range to the St. Paul, MN office.
Responsibilities
- Advise and assist primary-level insurance carriers and self-insured employers (policyholders) on cost-effective case management and loss reduction techniques, including contribution, apportionment, subrogation, and Social Security offset, etc.
- Analyze and evaluate catastrophic claims reported to the WCRA, including establishing reinsurance reserves.
- Maintain a caseload of complex, high-dollar exposure claims.
- Provide individual case guidance to policyholder concerns regarding primary liability, reserving, litigation, settlements, etc.
- Establish and maintain positive consultative partnerships with policyholder accounts and other industry professionals.
- Reconcile and authorize policyholders’ reimbursement requests.
- Collaborate and educate members, TPAs, and attorneys regarding WCRA policies, payments, economic assumptions, settlements, etc.
- Serve as a technical resource for other WCRA claims staff regarding complex claims issues.
- Maintain clear and concise claim file documentation
Minimum Qualifications, Skills, & Experience
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in experience
- Four years of workers’ compensation claims experience, preferably with serious injuries
- Demonstrated skills in applying sound judgment/analysis, decision-making/problem-solving, planning, and organization
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Ability to work independently and in a team environment
- Mathematical aptitude and detail orientation
- Strong Microsoft Excel and Outlook skills
