ABOUT THE POSITION
Senior Civil Transportation Engineer / Project Manager | Hybrid | New York City Metro
VHB's New York City office is seeking an 8+ year Senior Civil Engineer/Project Manager who is passionate about working on complex infrastructure projects in NYC Metro Region. This is an exciting opportunity to join our dynamic team and tackle the City’s most complex public infrastructure projects including roadway and rail, as well as private development projects. We work on everything from upgrading the City’s streets, utilities, highways, and parks to large-scale real estate developments including hospital expansions.
Experience working with local and state agencies (such as NYSDOT, NYCEDC, NYCDDC, NYCDOT, NYCDEP, NYCDPR, NYCDOB, MTA, PANYNJ) is highly desired.
Responsibilities
- Manage projects or tasks of varying size, working within a team of professionals to develop well-coordinated civil engineering plans, specifications, and deliverables for transportation infrastructure projects in NYC metro region
- Attend meetings with clients, regulatory agencies, and stakeholders to establish their needs and discuss design/permitting issues and overall schedule
- Participate in client focus teams, work with others to develop new project opportunities, and participate in developing proposals which may include scope, schedule and budget
- Lead a design team through local and state agencies permitting for new or reconstructing roadways and utility infrastructure that may include modifications to the City Map, Amended Drainage Plans, Hydraulics Analyses, and Unified Stormwater Rule
- Prepare and review design drawings, specifications, and estimates
- Supervise design team activities during construction administration and construction close-out
Skills and Attributes
- Knowledge of the policies, review processes, and design standards of state and local agencies (NYSDOT, NYCDOT, NYCDEP, NYCDOB, PANYNJ and/or MTA)
- Ability to manage workload, meet budget and meet deadlines
- Team oriented and motivated to lead/mentor junior staff
- Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills
- Self-motivated, highly organized, and detail oriented
Qualifications
- 8-11 years of civil transportation design engineering experience required
- 11-15 years of experience preferred
- Proficiency in AutoCAD and/or MicroStation required
- Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or related field required, Master’s preferred (master’s may substitute for 1 year of experience)
- Licensed Professional Engineer (PE) required
- Prior project experience with NY state and local agencies preferred
Our best estimate of the salary range for this position located in New York City is $120,000-175,000. The final compensation will be based on a variety of factors such as individual qualifications, education, and experience.
