Your Impact
Job Duties:
- Interpret plans and perform independent technical assignments to ensure inspection and monitoring of construction activities performed on roadway and bridge construction projects.
- Verify that construction activities are performed according to the contract documents, including specifications, plans, standard plans, permits, policies and procedures.
- Perform materials testing using hand tools, gauges and/or instruments in accordance with Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) requirements and scope of services.
- Use various engineering tools, equipment, instruments, and computers for performing technical tasks, problem solving and record keeping.
- Maintain detailed accurate records of operations and significant events: Complete and enter Daily Work Reports into client's database.
- Prepare documentation to validate payments to roadway contractors.
- Monitor and inspect the Work Zone Temporary Traffic Control (device usage, installation/placement, and materials to ensure safe work zones). Review work site activities for conformance with safety regulations and take corrective measures when deficiencies are identified.
- Monitor Environmental Permits compliance.
- Exercise responsible and ethical decision-making regarding company funds, resources and conduct, and adhere to WSP’s Code of Conduct and related policies and procedures.
- Perform additional responsibilities as required by business needs
Who You Are
Required Qualifications
- High School Diploma.
- Minimum of 5 years of relevant post education experience in discipline with prior construction inspection experience.
- Knowledge of concepts, terminology and principles of road and bridge construction
- Highly familiar with construction inspection principles, field inspection practices, process, methods and techniques.
- Highly familiar with relevant construction codes, regulations, compliance practices, and record-keeping requirements.
- Sound interpersonal and communication skills when interacting with others, expressing ideas effectively and professionally to a technical and non-technical audience.
- Sound self-leadership with attention to detail, accuracy, multi-tasking, and prioritization of responsibilities in a dynamic work environment.
- Ability to learn new techniques, perform multiple tasks simultaneously, follow instruction, and comply with company policies.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision, as well as part of a team to meet business objectives.
- Analytical mindset to exercise sound judgement in evaluating situations and making decisions.
- Ability to effectively communicate (orally and in writing) and maintain good working relationships with contractors, utility companies, FDOT and others
- Basic proficiency with technical writing, office automation, software, technology, spreadsheets, and tools.
- Ability to provide input and feedback to others in the field such as subcontractors and work colleagues to consistently complete tasks safely, efficiently, and accurately according to specifications.
- Proven track record of upholding workplace safety and ability to abide by WSP’s health, safety and drug/alcohol and harassment policies.
- Ability to work schedules conducive to project-specific requirements that may extend beyond the typical workweek.
- Occasional travel may be required depending on project-specific requirements.
- Ability to work nights and weekends and be available for emergency response work as necessary.
- Valid Class E driver’s license
- Must successfully complete and pass WSP’s Motor Vehicle screening.
Certifications (must have or achieve within 3 months):
- CTQP Concrete Field Inspector Level I (level II required if bridges)
- CTQP Asphalt Roadway Level I & II
- CTQP Earthwork Construction Inspection Level I & II
- CTQP Pile Driving Inspection
- CTQP Drilled Shaft Inspection (required for inspection of drilled shafts including miscellaneous structures such as sign structures, lighting structures, and traffic signal structures)
- CTQP Final Estimates Level I
- FDOT Intermediate Temporary Traffic Control
