Responsibilities
As Senior Capacity Expansion & Production Cost Analyst, you will support, and co-lead Mainspring growth strategies and activities in order to promote deployment of grid-scale applications for our linear generator technology and influence strategies for winning new business. You will provide critical analysis to support product development, strategy and sales, and have the opportunity to help shape solution offerings for Mainspring’s customers. A successful candidate in this role will draw from previous commercial analysis, strategy, energy business intelligence, or business development experience, be proficient in capacity expansion and production cost analysis/modeling, be well-versed in project management, and be excited to create value both as a member of a team and as an individual contributor. Additionally, the selected candidate will:

Be an influential member of the commercial analytics team.

Build, maintain and run utility portfolio simulations from both a capacity expansion and from a production cost modeling perspective. This will include exploration from a research perspective (to inform product development and strategy), and from a business development/use-case perspective (to inform business development and sales).

Model competitiveness of MSE tech with other power generation technologies, including thermal, renewable and energy storage.

Review/compare electric utility integrated resource plans and other documentation to build an understanding of cost and performance of technologies considered for new builds, and advise ways to position Mainspring linear generators for inclusion as capacity choices in utility integrated resource plans..

Guide and provide insight, quantified by analytics, on the role of clean fuels (e.g., hydrogen, ammonia, biogas) in decarbonized energy systems, and how linear generators are well-suited for this purpose.

Work closely with the business development, product, policy, and regulatory affairs teams to continue shaping and executing on Mainspring’s business strategy in North America, including defining target markets and customers, solutions, value propositions.

Support new business and product development efforts incl. development of new business cases, documentation of product needs, issues, and improvements

Establish relationships with industry data providers, service vendors, and consultants

Analyze current market trends, regulations, economic drivers, and technology benchmarks to inform Mainspring’s business plan and offer development
This role will report to Director of Business Development, Grid-Scale Applications
Qualifications

5-8 years of professional experience in integrated resource planning and utility strategy space, and/or technology commercialization.

3 or more years experience with capacity expansion and least cost dispatch simulation approaches.

Curious and excited to learn and expand horizons in the energy space, from the market, our customers and other team members and their areas of expertise,

BA/BS degree in economics, engineering, business required; advanced STEM or business degree (e.g. MBA) preferred

Strong interdisciplinary background,

Proven track record and experience with solving complex issues in a creative and collaborative manner,

Strong critical thinking and issue prioritization skills, as well as strong verbal and written communication skills,

In-depth understanding of the US electric power industry,

Passionate about the energy systems, the energy transition, and development and commercialization of disruptive energy technologies
The Bay Area salary for this role is $115k-$130k base + bonus + pre-IPO stock options + benefits. This position can be remote. The salary will be adjusted to reflect local market conditions based on employee location as well as the experience of the employee.
