Soil Scientist Program Manager (Loam Bio, LLC, St. Paul, MN): Developing and implementing collaborative proposals based on soil research to expand understanding of microbial carbon removal. Leading development and implementation of Loam Bio grant proposals and demonstration projects from inception to submission. Serving as Loam Bio’s Collaboration Manager on multiple academic projects in the Soil Science and Soil Carbon areas. Working cross-functionally to demonstrate and validate the effectiveness of microbial technology as a means of carbon reduction. Tracking progress of intra-Company project results and impacts on current methodologies being utilized to realize any available improvements to farmland carbon capture processes. Developing the Company’s knowledge pertaining to soil carbon dynamics through field, lab, and modeling-based experiments, and reporting on such in an effective and routine manner. Standardizing soil carbon measurement protocols and soil carbon stocks calculations internally. Working with R&D team on product development to increase available company offerings. Developing research reports and making presentations on findings, including non-scientific reports and scientific research papers to advance the fight against climate change. Must have experience with the following in order to complete the above-mentioned tasks: Knowledge of and experience measuring the impact of agricultural land management practices on soil organic carbon dynamics. Experience keeping abreast of the latest technology and developments in soil science, i.e.: carbon isotope tracing, radiocarbon dating, soil organic matter fractionation, carbon stocks measurement, 16S/ITS amplicon sequencing, methods to measure soil enzyme and biochemical pathways, synchrotron and nanosims. Ability to perform soil carbon stocks assessments from precise field sampling, laboratory processing and analysis, to software-based EMS carbon stocks calculation of data. Ability to manage multiple projects nationally including budget tracking. Experience working with large datasets, monitoring, statistical analysis, verification, and reporting. Experience communicating and delivering outcomes from broad strategic direction in collaborative and team environments. Experience performing lab-based physical and/or chemical fractionation protocols on soil samples to assess soil carbon stability. Experience measuring and monitoring soil greenhouse gas emissions. Knowledge and experience measuring soil microbial functions and community composition. Experience establishing and maintaining field trials in agricultural systems with soil amendment experiments. Requires a Ph.D. or foreign equivalent in Soil Science or a related field and two (2) years of experience as a Postdoctoral Researcher or related occupation in the Soil/Agricultural Science fields. Option to work from home. Travel required: 10% international travel to offices in Orange, AUS and Calgary, CAN and 20% domestic travel to South Portland, ME and various other locations in the US.
