Overview: A Senior Benefit Consultant works on a team with a Benefit Analyst and an Employee Advocate. This dedicated team helps service a group of clients (a book of business). A Benefits Consultant interfaces with clients to strategize and propose viable employee benefit solutions. The Benefit Consultant is the primary project manager and communication liaison with employers.
Hybrid work environment: Work from home 3 days with 2 collaboration days in the downtown Denver office.
Primary Job Responsibilities:
- Develops a trusted advisor relationship with clients
- Creates and maintains a positive relationships with carriers and vendor partners
- Helps clients articulate their short and long-term objectives and develops a strategic plan
- Addresses client problems and issues. Acts proactively when a potential problem is discovered.
- Educates clients on legislative changes and conducts compliance reviews with clients
- Strategically plans and executes plan renewals and drives the renewal timeline
- Conducts pre-renewal meeting with the client and anticipates concerns developing from the renewal process. Meets with the Benefit Analyst to discuss meeting findings.
- Works with Benefit Analyst to negotiate benefit renewals
- Delivers renewal proposal to client including analysis, benchmarking and recommendations
- Prepares for client meetings by reviewing all presentation material thoroughly and checks to ensure there are no errors
- Helps Analyst and Advocate to develop employee communication materials
- Conducts employee open enrollment meetings and/or webinars
- Sends quarterly claims analysis to clients once completed by Analyst
- Enters notes in BenefitZone (CRM) after all meetings/contacts and ensures that follow up issues are handled timely and communicated to client
- Adds value through recommending additional options for a benefits package including voluntary benefits. Works with Analyst to discuss what lines should be quoted.
- Supplies training to new HR personnel
- Holds weekly team meetings with Analyst and Advocate. Keeps team informed and communicates thoroughly concerning client issues, renewals, and proactive work.
- Leads the monthly Consultant meetings where ideas are shared.
Book of business as of January 2024:
- 7 clients
- $700k annual revenue
- 4 fully insured clients, 1 bundled self-funded, 2 unbundled self-funded
Requirements:
Knowledge/Experience Required:
- Colorado Life and Health license
- 4 years of experience in the Employee Benefits industry
- Ability to communicate medical, Rx, and ancillary product analyses including plan design pricing and contract information
- Experience with self funding and medical captives
- Professional Designation is a plus
Skills/Abilities Required
- Excellent communication and presentation skills; listens, speaks, and writes well
- Able to interact effectively with people of various responsibility and authority (employees, HR contacts, executives)
- Ability to manage multiple client projects and work assignments under aggressive timeframes and stay highly organized
- Ability to work collaboratively with teammates by finding common ground in completing tasks and solving problems
- Proficient in Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel and PowerPoint

Salary Range: $100,000 - $150,000 depending on experience
*A wide salary range is posted for this position and any job offer is based upon a salary analysis to comply with the required state pay transparency law. The salary analysis considers relevant experience, education, certifications, and seniority as compared to others doing substantially similar work. There is no guarantee an offer will be at the top of the posted range based on the salary analysis.
