A bit about us:
We are an open source platform that supports programmable money and digital identity solutions for financial institutions. Our high-speed interbank platform enables the transactions and settlements of programmable money between central banks, commercial banks and consumers. The underlying database can then be used to provide secure analytics to wholesale stakeholders and support digital identity and banking aggregator solutions for consumers. We are a vertically-integrated, open source software platform that focuses on balancing privacy, scalability and interoperability (with existing and future platforms) across our stakeholder pipeline.
As the Backend Engineer you will work closely with the rest of the engineering team, product managers, and designers and be responsible for designing, architecting, and implementing the backend databases and microservice architecture to help the exchange run smoothly. You will be given a high level of autonomy/ownership over your projects, the opportunity to expand your scope of knowledge, and the chance to help build the decentralized infrastructure of the future.

The position is based in New York, Los Angeles, or San Francisco. with full-time salary and benefits. Engineers will be based in the office and may work remotely depending on the situation.
Key Responsibilities, Prioritized:
Database Architecture and Infrastructure
- Create and document the relevant requirements and use cases for our initial MVP for our backend databases and infrastructure.
- Work closely with other engineers and executives to build out the interbank platform architecture to power programmable digital fiat.
- Build, maintain and test core components of our architecture including managing off-chain data ingestion, mobile first encryption, and privacy-enabled verification.
- Identify opportunities to improve existing systems/workflows for performance, speed, and accuracy.
Frontend and Backend Integration
- Build strong, resilient, and robust APIs, libraries, and services to power our payment integration services including onboarding existing payment rails to transition into programmable digital fiat.
- Work closely with the frontend and smart contracts team to integrate the data, engine, and communication layers with a traditional Web2 frontend as well as handle integrations from a distributed ledger.
Bolster Engineering Practices
- Collaborate closely with all engineering teams to ensure consistency in understanding of technical requirements and overall work quality.
- Provide mentorship to your peers throughout the wider engineering team through code reviews and education on best practices.
- Assist the engineering team in set-up, maintenance and ongoing development of continuous build/ integration infrastructure.
- Train and support developers to align on source control, through build automation, merge resolution, CI/CD, test automation, deployment based on tools usage and policies, standards.
- Help due diligence open source technology partnerships.
- Support interviewing of other engineering members and help them onboard onto the Knox team.
Job Details
Requirements
- Received a bachelor's degree in CS, EE, or a related technical field, and proven excellence in previous roles.
- 3+ years of experience with Rust, and/or Go.
- Familiar with distributed systems, database scaling, and microservice architectures.
- Be based at the office in New York or LA and be able to travel within the U.S. and internationally on a regular basis as needed.
