About the Job
Bull’s Bridge Golf Club, a premier Tom Fazio design tucked away in the rolling hills of Connecticut's pristine Litchfield County, is seeking a Senior Assistant Superintendent. The chosen individual will assist the Superintendent of Golf Course and Facilities, Stephen Hicks, in the development and execution of agronomic and business management programs for the #7 ranked course in the state by Golf Digest.

In addition, our work/life balance initiatives ensure Assistants have Fridays and Saturdays off during peak season as well as weekends from November 15th - April 1st all while limiting weekly hours in January to just four days.
Club highlights:
- Annual rounds: 10,000
- Staff: 22-25 in peak season. 12 full-time seasonal and 7 staffed in the winter
- Typical work schedule:
- In-season: 6 days per week with one long weekend off per month. 60 hours per week
- Off-season: 5 days per week, with only 4 days per week in January. 40 hours per week or less.
- Equipment: Leased and purchased equipment from both Toro and John Deere
- Irrigation system: Toro
- Types of grass: Bentgrass playing surfaces and Bluegrass rough overseeded with TTTF
- Future projects:
- 2025: New clubhouse grand opening, 2-acre short game and Himalaya green construction project, clubhouse lawns and irrigation system install.
- 2026: Pumpstation replacement

Initial Priorities of Position:
- Get acclimated to the current routines and processes and offer suggestions and critiques
- Take responsibility for managing the irrigation system including performing needed maintenance and repairs, and assist with planning improvements and projects
- Learn spray application techniques and processes specific to BBGC and obtain application license
- Facilitates effective communication between the Superintendent, Assistant Superintendents, and staff, ensuring clear, consistent information flow through observational, record-keeping, and communication skills.
- Leads staff meetings, recruits, interviews, and hires seasonal staff, and oversees personnel management, including evaluations, training, safety, motivation, and discipline.
- Develops and implements “operating manuals” and work schedules to ensure consistent operations, efficient use of labor, and employee proficiency.
- Manages the employee safety program and fosters collaboration across Club departments for smooth operations and member satisfaction.
- Plans, schedules, and documents maintenance tasks using tools like Turf Cloud to track labor, job progress, and project statuses accurately.
- Creates efficient work orders, job routes, and routines tailored to seasonal needs while proactively anticipating challenges and making independent decisions as necessary.
- Assists the Superintendent in budget preparation, capital project management, contractor coordination, and purchasing supplies, tools, and chemicals.
- Ensures timely payroll submission, time clock management, and proper delegation and follow-up on tasks.
- Performs hands-on management of golf course maintenance, including scouting turf, pest, and disease pressures, repairing irrigation, operating equipment, and supervising pesticide applications.
- Manages irrigation systems, wells, and drainage operations while maintaining compliance with CTDEEP regulations.
- Oversees tree removal, landscaping tasks, and equipment care, ensuring proper training and safe operations for all staff.
- Maintains thorough records of maintenance programs, course improvements, irrigation usage, labor tracking, and weather conditions to produce detailed reports and presentations.
- Provides content for monthly and seasonal newsletters and communicates regularly with the Superintendent about schedules, turf conditions, and personnel issues.
- Demonstrates a strong work ethic, enthusiasm, attention to detail, and the ability to maintain effective business routines.
- Proficient in MS Office, turf management software, and web-based tools, engaging in continuing education to stay current with progressive management techniques.
- Committed to professionalism, ensuring job performance aligns with the best interests of the Superintendent, governing body, and overall golf course operations.
Education and Experience:
- Bachelors or associates degree in Turfgrass Management or related field
- 4-7 years of experience as an Assistant Superintendent
- 3 years of management experience
- Demonstrated strong written, verbal, interpersonal & communication skills
Compensation and Benefits:
- Total annual compensation between $90,000 - $95,000
