Support in the continued development of Markel’s Ceded Re analytics capabilities to enhance our ability to analyze structures and strategies to optimize profitability and return on capital within internal risk appetites.
- Support in the continued development of Markel’s Ceded Re analytics capabilities to enhance our ability to analyse structures and strategies to optimise profitability and return on capital within internal risk appetites
- Review and challenge pricing and reserving assumptions and methodologies adopted by actuarial teams to support Ceded Re placement. Ensure their appropriateness including through the development and identification of appropriate validation measures. Identify any areas of uncertainty and estimate their potential impacts.
- Provide Senior Management with an independent opinion on Markel’s Gross and Ceded Technical Reserves and profitability related to Casualty lines.
- Contribute to Ceded Re’s opinion on the Business Plan loss ratios.
- Present, explain and justify results, as required, to Actuarial Reserving and Pricing Teams
- Prepare Ceded Reinsurance data exhibits within Reinsurance renewal submissions, partnering with Reinsurance Placement to ensure all exhibits are collated timely and accurately.
- Support post placement data capture and analysis, including spend analysis, cost allocation and impact on profitability.
- Develop reporting solutions to provide valuable Ceded Reinsurance insights and services to the business
- Provide technical guidance and training to team members.
- Build strong working relationships with our reinsurance brokers, underwriting leadership, and key data owners.
Skills, knowledge and experience
- 5-7 years of experience
- Advanced understanding of insurance industry specifically Casualty lines. Understanding ofreinsurance and actuarial concepts.
- Strong analytical and communication skills.
- Ability to problem solve with limited support on ambiguous requests or requirements
- Advanced Microsoft Office skills
- Experience with various reporting and business intelligence tools

Pay information:
The base salary offered for the successful candidate will be based on compensable factors such as job-relevant education, job-relevant experience, training, licensure, demonstrated competencies, geographic location, and other factors. The salary for the Sr. Analyst, Ceded Re Analytics position is $95,000 - $115,000 with 25% bonus potential.
