Description
The Small Commercial (SC) Market Analytics team within US Retail Markets is seeking a Senior Actuarial Analyst to become a key contributor in formulating our market-level rate guidance strategy and tactics. This work is a critical part of setting the annual Plan and in supporting short- and long-term state business strategy. In this role you will work closely with SC State Product teams and with other teams in SC Risk Analytics. Do you love making processes more efficient? Great! In this role, you will also take on responsibility for maintaining and developing some of the complex tools and processes we use for setting rate guidance, tracking rate execution, and projecting rate into the future.

Responsibilities:
- During rate planning cycles, formulate a coherent set of granular rate recommendations subject to constraints that also meet our countrywide rate level needs.
- Use appropriate actuarial methods to align market-level rate indications with expected filing timelines and anticipated rate actions.
- Communicate with Product partners about rate guidance strategy at both a high level and in granular detail, and how the two are connected.
- Maintain and continuously improve our team’s tools and processes for setting rate guidance and projecting rate into future periods.
- Carry out additional ad hoc analyses as they arise.
- Develop market-specific expertise that can applied in setting market-level guidance and recommendations.
- Proven math and analytical skills, as normally acquired through the pursuit of a bachelor’s degree in Mathematics, Statistics, Economics, Actuarial Science, or related field
- Commitment to achieving Fellowship in the Casualty Actuarial Society.
- Passing grades on a minimum of 5 Casualty Actuarial Exams is required. Minimum 3-5 years relevant experience required.
- Prior experience and solid knowledge of actuarial techniques and standards, as well as other business operations including financial, underwriting, legal, statistics, claims, sales, etc.
- Solid oral and written and presentation communication skills and ability to interact effectively within and outside the organization.
- Solid interpersonal skills and the ability to work in a team environment as well as independently.
- Ability to motivate and mentor peers and motivate and train subordinates.
- Ability to exercise discretion and apply independent judgment and well-developed critical thinking skills in execution of assignments and projects.
- Ability to balance multiple projects with minimal direction.
- Advanced computing skills (MS Office Excel, SAS, etc.).
- Ability to build models of moderate complexity.
