About the Job
The Senior Accounting Clerk is responsible for performing advanced-level clerical and administrative accounting duties to support the finance or accounting department. This role involves handling complex financial records, ensuring accuracy in accounting procedures, and providing guidance to junior accounting clerks. The Senior Accounting Clerk plays a critical role in maintaining efficient accounting operations, supporting audits, and contributing to the preparation of financial statements.
Key Responsibilities
Accounting and Record-Keeping
- Maintain and reconcile general ledger accounts.
- Record financial transactions and ensure accuracy in data entry.
- Prepare journal entries for monthly and year-end closing processes.
- Reconcile bank statements, credit card transactions, and vendor accounts.
Accounts Payable and Receivable
- Process invoices, expense reports, and payments to vendors.
- Monitor accounts receivable and follow up on overdue payments.
- Assist in generating customer invoices and posting payments.
Financial Reporting
- Assist in the preparation of financial statements and management reports.
- Prepare supporting schedules for audits and financial reviews.
- Generate periodic financial reports, ensuring compliance with regulations.
Internal Controls and Compliance
- Ensure accounting practices comply with organizational policies and regulations.
- Support audits by preparing documentation and responding to inquiries.
- Assist in identifying process improvements to enhance efficiency.
Administrative Support
- Maintain organized financial records and documentation.
- Provide guidance and mentorship to junior clerks and administrative staff.
- Handle confidential financial information with discretion and integrity.
Qualifications
- Experience: 3+ years of experience in accounting or bookkeeping roles, preferably in a senior or supervisory position.
- Technical Skills: Proficiency in accounting software (e.g., QuickBooks, SAP, or similar) and advanced Microsoft Excel skills.
- Knowledge: Solid understanding of accounting principles, practices, and financial regulations.
