About the Job
Overview:Coordinate the fixed asset accounting for the College, from acquisition through disposition, including building/renovation projects, the annual inventory, surplus asset sale, lease evaluation and specifics related to grant funded assets, according to College policy. Reconcile fixed assets records with the general ledger, ensuring all journal entries are properly recorded in accordance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles on a timely basis, including depreciation expense for the College and Community Arts Center. Provide training to staff and College employees related to fixed asset system. Maintain files and deeds for all College owned property. Maintain and process all property taxes due on College owned property. Reconcile external property appraisal reports with College's insurance list. Responsible for developing financial reports as needed by the Financial Operations department, President's Council, and Cost Center Administrators as directed by supervisor or the CFO. Assist in the preparation of federal, state and other regulatory reports, ensuring compliance with established guidelines; keep informed of governmental regulations and procedures affecting the institution's finance and accounting procedures. Prepare program review analysis for Academic Affairs annual review. Prepare general ledger account reconciliations and various other accounting statements and reports as required; provide interpretation of results as appropriate. Prepare work papers as required for annual audit of College's records. Research and resolve errors related to general ledger transaction uploads. Provide department back-up for accounting processes as needed. Assist with annual budget development and management. Review and approve all budget transfer requests submitted by College departments. Audit all petty cash funds throughout the College and report findings to supervisor. Assist in ensuring that all appropriate internal control procedures are effectively in place. Assist in any special projects assigned to the department. Maintain up-to-date professional knowledge. Maintain a congenial, customer service, attitude with all members of the College, including employees, students and their families, and with vendors and outside contractors with whom the College does business. Qualifications:EDUCATION
- Bachelor's Degree in Accounting, or related discipline. Required
- Certified Public Accountant. Preferred
EXPERIENCE
- Four (4) years of related experience in an environment using computerized accounting systems, preferably in a college, university, or other fund accounting system. Required
- Knowledge of and experience with property, plant and equipment accounting procedures. Required
ABILITIES AND SKILLS
- Superior ability with personal computers, network and mainframe applications and spreadsheet software. Required
- Competence in verbal and written communication skills. Required
- Ability to work with a variety of work assignments simultaneously while experiencing frequent interruptions. Required
- Specialized knowledge in computer financial system reporting tools. Required
- Must possess a valid driver's license. Required
