This position plays a critical role in providing financial leadership and direction within our organization. The Senior Property Accountant will be responsible for overseeing and managing the financial operations and reporting for a portfolio of real estate assets, ensuring accurate and timely financial statements, and providing financial analysis to support strategic decision making. We are currently seeking a dynamic and highly skilled Senior Property Accountant to join our Accounting and Finance team. This position plays a critical role in providing financial leadership and direction within our organization. The Senior Property Accountant will be responsible for overseeing and managing the financial operations and reporting for a portfolio of real estate assets, ensuring accurate and timely financial statements, and providing financial analysis to support strategic decision making. This is a permanent position that offers a challenging and rewarding opportunity to contribute to the growth and success of our business.
Responsibilities:
- Manage and oversee the daily operations of the accounting department including month and end-year process, accounts payable/receivable, cash receipts, general ledger, payroll and utilities, treasury, budgeting, cash forecasting, revenue and expenditure variance analysis, capital assets reconciliations, check runs, fixed asset activity, debt activity etc.
- Monitor and analyze accounting data and produce financial reports or statements.
- Establish and enforce proper accounting methods, policies and principles.
- Coordinate and complete annual audits.
- Provide recommendations to improve systems and procedures and initiate corrective actions.
- Assign projects and direct staff to ensure compliance and accuracy.
- Meet financial accounting objectives.
- Establish and maintain fiscal files and records to document transactions.
- Conduct regular ledger and reconciliation reviews to ensure accuracy.
- Communicate with property managers and vendors, ensuring all financial transactions are properly recorded.
- Oversee the compilation of draw schedules and construction accounting.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
- 3+ years of experience in accounting or related field.
- Proficient in accounting software (Yardi preferred).
- Strong knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
- Experience in services related to payroll such as writing checks and submitting payroll taxes.
- Strong understanding of business and income tax worksheets and computations.
- Experience with accounting for real estate portfolios.
- Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to effectively communicate with all levels of the organization.
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
- Demonstrated ability to meet deadlines and perform under pressure.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, with advanced skills in Excel.
- Strong problem-solving and analytical skills.
- Detail-oriented with a high level of accuracy in preparing and entering financial information.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- CPA or CMA certification preferred but not required.
