Job Overview:
Jerome L Taylor Trucking Inc is seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Senior Accountant to join our growing finance team. The ideal candidate will be responsible for managing accounting functions, ensuring the accuracy and integrity of financial data, and preparing financial reports in compliance with accounting standards. As a Senior Accountant, you will also play a key role in financial analysis, month-end and year-end close processes, and assisting with audits and tax filings. This position requires a strong understanding of accounting principles, excellent problem-solving skills, and the ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.
Key Responsibilities:
- General Ledger Management: Oversee and maintain the general ledger, ensuring all financial transactions are accurately recorded and reconciled in a timely manner.
- Month-End & Year-End Close: Lead the month-end and year-end closing processes, including preparing journal entries, reconciling accounts, and ensuring timely and accurate financial statements.
- Financial Reporting: Prepare and review financial statements (balance sheets, income statements, and cash flow statements) in accordance with GAAP, ensuring accuracy and compliance with internal and external reporting requirements.
- Account Reconciliation: Perform monthly reconciliations of balance sheet accounts, including cash, accounts payable, accounts receivable, and inventory, ensuring that discrepancies are identified and resolved.
- Audit Support: Provide support for both internal and external audits, preparing schedules, documentation, and detailed explanations of financial transactions as requested.
- Tax Compliance: Assist with the preparation and filing of federal, state, and local tax returns, ensuring compliance with tax laws and regulations.
- Internal Controls: Ensure compliance with internal accounting controls, safeguarding company assets, and mitigating financial risks.
- Financial Analysis: Conduct detailed financial analysis, including variance analysis, and provide actionable insights to management for decision-making.
- Process Improvement: Identify opportunities for process improvements, automation, and efficiency gains in accounting workflows.
- Collaboration with Other Departments: Work closely with cross-functional teams, such as accounts payable, accounts receivable, and payroll, to ensure accurate and efficient financial operations.
- Mentorship & Training: Provide guidance and mentorship to junior accounting staff, helping them to develop their skills and knowledge in accounting practices.
Qualifications:
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in accounting, Finance, or a related field. A Master’s degree or CPA certification is highly preferred.
- Experience: Minimum of 5 years of progressive accounting experience, with a strong focus on financial reporting, account reconciliation, and month-end/year-end close processes.
- Technical Skills: Proficiency in accounting software (e.g., QuickBooks, SAP, Oracle, Microsoft Dynamics) and advanced skills in Microsoft Excel (pivot tables, VLOOKUP, etc.).
- Knowledge: Deep understanding of GAAP, financial reporting standards, and regulatory requirements.
- Attention to Detail: Strong attention to detail with a commitment to accuracy and consistency in financial data.
- Communication: Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to effectively explain financial concepts to non-financial stakeholders.
- Problem-Solving: Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to identify issues and recommend solutions.
- Organizational Skills: Ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously, prioritize effectively, and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
- Leadership: Previous experience mentoring or leading junior accounting staff is a plus.
Desired Skills:
- Experience with ERP systems and automation tools is a plus.
- Familiarity with tax preparation and compliance requirements.
