Senior Accountant - Suncoast Credit Union

Compensation: $70,000 - $90,000 based on experience and credentials

Training Schedule: Monday through Friday 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM (onsite full time for the first 90 days)

The work model is hybrid, combining remote and onsite hours. The candidate must be onsite at least one day per week.

The Senior Accountant performs accounting work and reviews reports prepared by the Accountant team members. This role requires knowledge of the theory and practice of recording, classifying, examining, and analyzing financial transactions in accordance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles. An ideal incumbent is a highly motivated, independent individual who has a keen attention to detail.

• Prepare Credit Union Service Organization (CUSO) financial statements, reports, and general ledger reconcilements
• Prepare various cost analyses and projections
• Develop and implement ad-hoc reports
• Prepare and review monthly financial statements, including research and variance analysis
• Perform month end general ledger research and variance analysis
• Review and approve the funding of general or special checking accounts and federal funds on a daily basis by wire and transfers
• Prepare and review regulatory reports, including FR2900 and 5300 Call Report
• Assist in preparation or review of all internal and external reports
• Assist in preparation of the annual budget
• Assist in maintenance of General Ledger system by ensuring all entries are correct and accurate
• Prepare analyses by gathering pertinent data and formalizing results using Excel spreadsheets
• Coordinate schedules, activities, and other information required for external and internal auditors and NCUA examiners
• Review and develop related accounting policies and procedures, recommending changes to improve efficiency or strengthen controls
• Support the department supervisor and manager by assisting in departmental training of staff and answering staff questions
• Maintain knowledge and understanding of current trends, laws, and issues affecting the area of expertise
• Attend educational events to increase professional knowledge
• Complete annual compliance and info security training to understand employees' role in maintaining effective compliance and security programs

• Bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance required
• 4 or more years of experience in the field of accounting, preferably with a financial institution
• Experience in a senior accountant role preferred
• Proficient in Microsoft Excel
• Ability to prioritize tasks by effectively managing competing and changing priorities to meet deadlines
• Accurate, detail-oriented, and organized with task management
• Ability to analyze and resolve difficult and often complex problems or situation
• Strong written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills to interact effectively with members, staff, vendors, and government regulators
• Strong knowledge and understanding of credit union products, services, policies, and procedures
• Strong knowledge and understanding of regulatory compliance
• Strong knowledge and understanding of credit union computer systems and software applications required to perform job duties
