This is an exciting opportunity for a seasoned accounting professional with a strong background in statutory insurance accounting, GAAP, and insurance experience. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to work in a challenging and rewarding environment where they can make a significant impact on the company's financial operations.
Responsibilities:
1. Handle complex accounting activities related to statutory insurance accounting, ensuring compliance with all relevant regulations and standards.
2. Prepare, examine, and analyze accounting records, financial statements, and other financial reports to assess accuracy, completeness, and conformance to reporting and procedural standards.
3. Develop, implement, modify, and document recordkeeping and accounting systems, making use of current computer technology.
4. Compute taxes owed and prepare tax returns, ensuring compliance with payment, reporting, and other tax requirements.
5. Analyze business operations, trends, costs, revenues, financial commitments, and obligations, to project future revenues and expenses or to provide advice.
6. Report to management regarding the finances of the establishment.
7. Establish tables of accounts and assign entries to proper accounts.
8. Develop, maintain, and analyze budgets, preparing periodic reports that compare budgeted costs to actual costs.
9. Advise management about issues such as resource utilization, tax strategies, and the assumptions underlying budget forecasts.
10. Survey operations to ascertain accounting needs and to recommend, develop, and maintain solutions to business and financial problems.
Qualifications:
1. A Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
2. A minimum of 5 years of experience in a senior accounting role.
3. Proven experience in statutory insurance accounting and a thorough understanding of GAAP.
4. Prior experience in the insurance industry is highly desirable.
5. Strong analytical skills and attention to detail.
6. Excellent problem-solving abilities and a proactive approach to finding solutions.
7. Strong communication skills, both written and verbal.
8. Proficiency in using accounting software and other related computer applications.
9. Ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines.
10. A commitment to continuous professional development.
