Position Overview: The Senior Accountant will play a key role in completing the organization's accounting functions, with a focus on month-end close processes and accrual accounting. This position requires a strong understanding of generally accepted accounting principles, excellent analytical skills, and the ability to collaborate effectively with internal stakeholders. The ideal candidate will have prior experience working on the month-end close process and have a commitment to the organization's mission.
Senior Accountant Responsibilities:
- Participate in the month-end close process, including preparing journal entries, reconciling accounts, and analyzing financial data to ensure accuracy and completeness.
- Perform accrual accounting to accurately record expenses and revenues in the appropriate accounting period.
- Prepare and review financial statements in accordance with GAAP and non-profit accounting standards.
- Assist in budget preparation and monitoring, providing insights and analysis to support decision-making.
- Manage restricted fund accounting and ensure compliance with donor restrictions and grant requirements.
- Coordinate with program managers and development staff to track and report on grant expenditures and outcomes.
- Oversee accounts payable and accounts receivable functions, ensuring timely and accurate processing of transactions.
- Assist with annual audit preparation and serve as a primary point of contact for auditors.
- Provide guidance and support to junior accounting staff, fostering a collaborative and growth-oriented team environment.
- Stay informed about changes in accounting regulations and standards relevant to non-profit organizations, and ensure compliance with applicable laws and guidelines.
- Support special projects and initiatives as assigned by management.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field required.
- 3-5 years of experience in accounting roles, with a focus on general accounting and month-end close processes.
- Strong understanding of GAAP and non-profit accounting principles, including fund accounting and grant accounting.
- Experience with accrual accounting and financial statement preparation.
- Proficiency in accounting software (e.g., QuickBooks, Sage Intacct, or similar) and Microsoft Excel.
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, with attention to detail and accuracy.
- Ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with internal stakeholders.
