Position Summary:
This role is responsible for executing a range of technical accounting tasks, using established procedures to ensure accurate financial record-keeping and analysis. Core duties include preparing and posting general ledger entries, performing monthly reconciliations for cash and other accounts, handling billing and monitoring accounts receivable, conducting bank reconciliations, reviewing accounts payable, and coding expenses. Additionally, the individual in this role will take lead responsibility in managing both routine and complex accounting and analytical tasks. This includes conducting financial analysis, managing document storage and retrieval, operating computerized accounting systems, developing and maintaining various statistical and financial reports, and overseeing purchasing procedures. The role also supports the preparation of monthly financial statements, as well as audit and budget documentation, while actively recommending improvements to increase departmental efficiency.

Job Responsibilities:
General Accounting & Finance Duties
- Assist with the preparation and distribution of monthly financial statements and grant reports to provide timely and accurate financial information.
- Generate specialized financial reports and detailed data analysis as requested by staff and management.
- Support year-end audit preparations, including 990 preparation and required reports for the Charities Review Council.
- Assist in completing external grant audit reports and contribute to accurate grant reporting.
- Compile, reconcile, and review annual budgets and quarterly forecasts.
- Conduct financial analysis, forecasting, and modeling to support strategic decision-making.
Account and General Ledger Reconciliation
- Reconcile balance sheet accounts to ensure accuracy and compliance with financial procedures.
- Maintain spreadsheets from daily journals and subsidiary ledgers, ensuring data integrity.
- Post data promptly to ledgers, registers, journals, and logs, adhering to established protocols.
Purchasing and Accounts Receivable
- Verify, review, and audit the coding of accounts payable invoices, reimbursements, mileage vouchers, and receivable contracts.
- Oversee the A/R function, including billing, posting, processing, and monitoring customer balances within established organizational policies.
- Execute timely wire transfers as necessary.
Payroll
- Process bi-weekly payroll, ensuring compliance with payroll procedures and accuracy.
- Prepare journal entries related to payroll, ensuring accurate allocation to relevant accounts.
- Complete year-end verification of W-2s and handle other payroll-related tasks as assigned.
Other Duties
- Prepare and submit quarterly sales tax reports, ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements.
- Drive automation initiatives within routine financial processes to enhance efficiency.
- Perform other duties as assigned, supporting the overall goals of the accounting department.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required
- Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance or related field.
- Advanced understanding of accrual accounting principles and practices.
- Proficiency with electronic general ledger software; experience with Great Plains is preferred.
- Intermediate skill level with computer functions, including spreadsheet management, accounting software, and word processing.
- Knowledge of billing principles and practices, along with strong mathematical skills.
- Expertise in financial record-keeping and reporting procedures.
- Strong problem-solving abilities related to accounts payable, accounts receivable, and cash receipts.
- Excellent organizational skills, with the ability to prioritize and meet deadlines.
- Effective interpersonal skills to communicate and work collaboratively with employees, vendors, and patrons.
- Analytical ability to evaluate financial data and identify trends.
